Things gettin' streaky in the NHL
The Capitals are up to 13 straight wins, a team record-----WUT?? Who's going to beat them right now? They play Pittsburgh tomorrow on NBC, a good game to watch before the Super Bowl. Their streak could end then or maybe at Ottawa on the 11th. Only three of those wins were against Western teams, the last coming on January 27 against the Ducks. Their next game against the West will be the 13th at St. Louis. Who knows, it make take a Western team to knock them off their pedestal, if the Pens don't do it first.

Meanwhile, the Senators are defending an 11 game winning streak against Toronto, however they are currently trailing in that game 3-0 in the first. The L.A. Kings are also showing some muscle with a 9 game streak, jumping to 4th in the conference, after knocking off the once-great Red Wings this afternoon. The Bruins, however, are streaking the wrong way, having lost their 10th straight game earlier today.

So, anyone have a prediction on who will end the Caps streak?

1. You forgot the Sharks
they've won 7 straight on the road...having not lost on the road since Dec. 12.

Of course, now that I've jinxed them, they'll probably lose to Nashville tonight..

2. L.A.'s comeback today was impressive.

If they win their next one I'll be wondering when the last time there were 3 teams with concurrent winning streaks of 10 or more games. I can't think of anytime off the top of my head.

The B's are just bizarre. They're actually playing pretty decent hockey for the most part, but they're very fragile in confidence now, especially late in the game. I haven't checked the stats in the last week but they were 6th or 7th defensively, they just can't bury the puck when they get the chances. The last two games they were up 2-0 and had chances to make it 3-0 and didn't capitalize, and the other teams eventually came back and won in the shootouts. They're still not out of it due to the tightness of the East right now, but they will be soon. I know Pittsburgh was out of the playoffs at this time last year, but the B's don't have a Crosby or a Malkin. I have no problems with Chiarelli being patient and not rushing to make a deal in panic mode, but they'll have to think about it or accept that they might miss the playoffs, which would make them the bust of the NHL year, no doubt.

On the plus side, if they continue to suck they'll have 2 top 10 picks in the draft.

3. I saw the end of the Bruins/Canucks game
when it was 2-1 in the third, Boston was just hanging on. You could see that tying goal coming. After the SO..Jack Edwards was saying Boston is, if I remember correctly, 1-9-4 over their last 14 and haven't scored more than 2 goals in I forget how long. It's surprising you're still only a couple points out of the playoffs.

4. That record sounds about right.
The Canucks could obviously sense the B's lack of confidence and poured it on, though you have give Luongo credit too. He made some big saves, especially on that odd deflection with a few minutes left.

And I can't remember the last time they scored more than 2 either. They play Montreal again tomorrow afternoon, and if they lose look for a deal to be made before the Olympics end. Two losses in one week to the Habs will not sit well with anyone here. It's not panic time yet, but nothing will induce it quicker than 2 losses to the hated Habs in short order.

5. Barring an epic collapse by the Leafs the Sens streak will end tonight.
The Leafs lead 4-0 after 2 periods.

6. Yessssss!
The Sens ruined AHL hockey in New Haven when they took over the longstanding Nighthawks and made them change their name to the Senators, meanwhile doubling the ticket prices.

After that collapsed, the Elm City spent a season or two in the ECHL (!) before giving up the ghost. Now Bridgeport (!!) has the area's AHL team -- and the Coliseum, where I saw my first Dead show, has been demolished.

Go Make Believes!
