Cleveland Browns to hire Eagle's GM Tom Heckert

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Eagles General Manager Tom Heckert could be named Browns GM as early as today, a league source said Sunday.

Heckert did not travel with the Eagles on Saturday night for their first-round playoff loss to the Cowboys, presumably because he was set to take the Browns job.

Sources told the Philadelphia Inquirer that multiple reports about Heckert being named Browns GM soon were correct. As of Saturday afternoon, the source said, Heckert had not notified the Eagles of his departure.

But the Cleveland job was brokered in part by Eagles coach Andy Reid, who said earlier this season that Heckert needed and deserved to go somewhere where he'd have final say on the roster. Currently, Reid has that authority in Philadelphia.
