2. the Yankees do NOT look good this year . . .
Steinbrenner and Cashman spent $200 million to put together a team of superstars, and they aren't performing . . . the only ones worth crap on this team are the original "real" Yankees -- Jeter, Posada, Williams, Rivera, Martinez . . . and Hideki Matsui . . . the money they're spending on the likes of Giambi, A-Fraud, Brown, Johnson, and Sheffield could fund an entire team elsewhere . . . why they let guys like Miguel Cairo and John Lieber go is beyond me . . .

anyhow, the Mets are a hell of a lot more fun to watch this year . . . they just swept the Astros, and won on consecutive days against starters Smoltz, Pettitte, and Clemens . . . Willie Ball is a lot more exciting than watching aging millionaires strike out . . .

5. They might end up all right, if they stay healthy.
And that's no sure thing.

It does seem like good management could put together much more of a sure thing with that kind of money, that's for sure.

3. My Yanks are not doing well at all...
Yes, Baltimore beat the shit out of them last night. They will be a tough team to beat this year, no doubt. This could be the year when the Yanks might not make the playoffs. Too many high priced players and no farm system, just like '82. We could be in for a long one...

On a brighter note, I don't think the Sox will have that great of a season, either. I doubt they will defend their title.

Of course, it is April. The Yanks had a terrible April last year, too. Still too early to call.

17. Steinbrenner has tried for several years to buy his way into . . .
a world championship . . . . much to his dismay (and, no doubt, confusion), it hasn't worked . . . last year the storebought Yankees managed to engineer the greatest choke in the history of sports . . . this year they may not even make the playoffs, imo . . .

despise them all you like, but there really is something called Yankee Pride . . . trouble is, it was missing last year, and it's missing even more this year . . . half the team is there only for George's money, and would play in Oshkosh if they could get the same dough . . . a bunch of individual prima donas just trying to get through the season without embarassing themselves . . . what pride they do have is strictly personal and in no way involves the team . . . that's why the team never gelled last year, and why they're not gelling this year, only worse . . .

I've watched most of the Yankee games this year, and already it's getting old . . . there's no passion, no fire, no Yankee swagger . . . A-Rod's more concerned about how he looks when he strikes out (really nice!) than actually being a Yankee, in the traditional sense . . .

I've also watched a few Mets games, and will likely be watching more . . . they're playing really exciting baseball, the way it's supposed to be played . . . and they're having fun . . . much more enjoyable to watch than a lineup of multi-millionaires who don't seem to care about anything but their own public personae . . .

George knows he's stuck with a boatload of ridiculous contracts, and he has to make a decision about Cashman this year . . . how much of this is his fault and how much is Cashman's I don't know -- but I suspect Brian was mainly carrying out George's orders . . . and George is learning that his money can't buy a world championship . . . quite a revelation that is no doubt shattering his worldview . . .

4. The Next Month Will Tell The Story
By May 15th, we'll know where the Yankees season is heading. Pavano, Wright, and RJ need to learn AL hitters, and A-Rod needs to calm down and get his head clear.

7. You guys need to work on getting people out with two outs
I believe ten runs have been allowed this series via that way.

12. If that happens
I will be soooooo happy. Seriously though, the Yankees have allowed the bulk of the runs in this series in two out and late situations, I think it really could be a sign.

14. I am not doing that
Edited on Sat Apr-16-05 07:47 PM by JohnKleeb
but I am impressed with the way my team is playing, c'mon man, I am getting my faith back in my team. In fact, Ive joked that this is only temporary but I think its for real. In fact, I did in my OP, the to be good if only briefly is a reference to the possible falling apart this summer.

15. I'm happy for you that your team
is doing well 11 games into the season. I guess the O's and their fans deserve a break. It wasn't too long ago that this Yankee fan knew how that felt. For years and years, I sat and watch my fave player, Don Mattingly, when the Yanks were horrible. But I still rooted for my Yanks game in and game out.

I think non-Yankee fans have forgotten this. Yes, the Yanks and their fans have been blessed the last 10 years with some great players and teams but we had our share of bad teams, mainly in the era of when I was a young boy.

16. Oh I have not forgot that
I know damn well the Yankees are fully capable of sucking, you know, two eras come to mind, the post Casey Stengel years in the 60's and the post Billy Martin yeasr in the 80's. I just havent seen them look this good in a while, and while I do know as well as anyone that they have gotten off to starts like this then folded, starting out 4-1 against the Yankees is something that will boost my confidence, plus it was a come from behind tonight, and I love those because I was afraid they'd lose tonight but they ended up winning thanks to Brian Roberts who is kicking ass again.
