2. It's looking good!
Looks like we may lose Bay, though.

4. Because we needed someone besides Beckett and Lester to be a consistent force
in the rotation?

It's certainly not gonna be Buchholz, Dice-K or Wake.

However, this does mean the end of the Jason Bay era.

5. Yeah, I agree, so WHY Lackey?
Bucholz was the teams best pitcher at the end of the season...what the Sox really need is a power hitter...I'd like to keep Bay, even though he's not the game changer we need. Lackey really hasn't proven himself, IMHO, for that kind of deal.

6. Because he's the new shiny toy on the market
and because y'all are trying to imitate the Yankees ...:P

8. Because Halladay was the only other dominating pitcher on the market
and the Blue Jays were asking the farm for him.

I understand this move, I really do--but they still need a goddamn 3B.

10. Halladay was very spotty the second half of last season...
...I'm glad we didn't blow the farm on him.

12. Because it enables them to trade Bucholz if necessary
either in the off season or during next season for the bat they need (Adrian Gonzalez or Miguel Cabrera). I've heard it suggested that they may even trade Beckett next season (or let him walk in free agency) rather than pay the price to resign him. If Bucholz develops like some think he will, you'll have Lester, Bucholz (at cheap money), Lackey and Dice-K in the rotation for a few years. I'm not thrilled about the signing as a stand alone, but it could put them in a position to be flexible in the coming 2 years.

11. No, we're talking about the real Sox...
not the ersatz fakey ones from the south side of Chicago.
