Boras says Giants should go after Beltre
Agent Scott Boras sees one of his major clients, third baseman Adrian Beltre, as a perfect fit for the Giants.

"Obviously, the Giants have this window of opportunity for the next four or five years with one of the most dominant pitching staffs in the game, if not the most dominant," Boras said.

"Offensively, they were 29th in runs scored. If you can add a player that increases the abilities of your pitching staff by having extraordinary defensive contributions and add a middle-of-the-order bat that can drive in 90 runs and hit 25, 30 home runs, I'd say that would be a pretty welcome fit for a team in the Giants' situation."

I see Scott Boras is trying to drum up some interest..

I've watched Beltre with the Mariners..he's an excellent defensive third baseman and reportedly a good teammate. However, his power numbers were only average and AT&T isn't any easier for a right handed hitter than Safeco. Still, I would like to see him on the Giants' roster come next year but Boras will be asking more than he's worth..Of course, if there are no other suitors that could change.

3. Would you and the other midget fans trash him because he was a Dodger?
But I guess if Panda isn't good enough to play 3rd anymore Beltre can still get the job done, although his best offensive days are way way in the past. Especially at SB & TT Park, it's hard to hit homers, so I guess he'd fit right in!:P

I might as well make my prediction right now.....the midgets will be lucky to finish better than the cellar next season.

5. I do believe you made that prediction last year
or you posted an article to that effect...how'd that work out for you? Also, weren't you touting Billingsley as an early Cy Young candidate? Boy, he finished strong didn't he?

You were wrong last season, you'll be wrong next season..your Dodgers are stuck in neutral as the Phillies proved the last 2 years.

And the Giants are back.

13. The gNats finished 3rd out of 5 teams
Yeah, I was WAY off.:eyes:

The article I posted predicted that the Dodgers would win the division. I pointed out that almost every sports writer I read picked either the Dodgers or Diamondbacks to win. No one picked the small men. You and prick boy all laughed and said there was no way the Dodgers would win. Well, guess what genius? My prediction was a helluva lot closer than yours was. You think Beltre is going to turn your sandlot team around?? That's priceless.

15. You were WAY off all right
the Giants finished second in the Wild Card, with the fifth best record in the 16 team NL..and you picked them dead last in the division.

So, yeah, you were WAY WAY off..embarrassingly so.

Oh, and the Giants don't need turning around..thanks to the Panda, Tim, and a host of other great young pitchers, that's already been accomplished....

17. Lets take a look
the Giants went from 72-90 in 2008 to 88-74 in '09...that's quite an improvement and something to feel good about.

Meanwhile, over the same time period, your Dodgers* have shown virtually no improvement at all...even losing the NLCS the last 2 years to the same team in exactly the same number of games.

Don't worry though, soon you wont have to suffer the anguish and humiliation of watching your showering choking Dodgers having their collective asses kicked in the playoffs...for the Giants are on the precipice of becoming the dominant team in the division.

4. I'd rather negotiate with Hitler than Boras.
Both want entire countries to fail, but only Boras over sells his position every year.

6. Yeah, Boras is bad news
the trouble is, he represents so many high profile players that he's almost impossible to avoid if a club wants to delve seriously into the free agent market..

7. Ain't that the truth?
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 11:43 PM by Forkboy
He has some rather good clients, that's for sure. Too bad he's a dick. Up to the teams to decide if they want to dance with him or not. Saying no may mean no title, saying yes means buying a lot of bullshit with said clients, but a possible title. Tough call, to be honest. I guess it comes down to a team's needs.

10. I really felt like Boras was holding the whole Nats team hostage
when he was negotiating the Strassburg deal earlier this year. I'm actually still kind of surprised they got it done....

11. I predict whoever gets Beltre will be sorry they did...
he won't be awful, but he won't be nearly what they pay for him. They're going to be looking for a long term deal (4 or 5 years), which saddles a club with a significant debt for and extended number of years. For the Giants, Beltre would still be a better signing than Zito, of course, but it will be along the lines of Renteria (except Beltre will be more money). In 2 years, you'll be thinking about all of the good stuff you could be doing with the money instead of playing a mediocre player that you have locked in for a few more years.

If they Giants don't get Beltre, it's a win for them. Unfortunately, I suspect my Red Sox might end up with him, and while I'd hope for the best, I'm sure we won't see it.

Besides, "add a middle-of-the-order bat that can drive in 90 runs and hit 25, 30 home runs, I'd say that would be a pretty welcome fit for a team in the Giants' situation". I agree, but who is Boras talking about? It's not Beltre.

Beltre has driven in 90+ runs only twice in his 12 year career and has hit 30 home runs only once (and 25+ only three times). 90 and 25 aren't overly impressive numbers for a "middle of the order" guy, and it's unlikely he'll even be able to produce that. Especially at a pitchers park like SF has.
