Congratulations to The Ohio State Buckeyes! Big Ten Champs!
One helluva game, Bucks. I'm not hanging my head. Hell, I'm proud of both teams. Gave the nation a great show. Capt, mad, Botany, TZ.
Whoever. Good deal. Now make the Big Ten proud at The Rose Bowl.

is this the same OSU that lost to USC, a team that now has 3 Pac 10 losses, in Columbus?

You better look in the motherfucking mirror, son. USC has ALL the talent in the world. Inexcusable for that team and the PAC-10. Pathetic.

7. It's a tough ending Condem
Man, last week, a 10-0 lead, ranked 4th in the BCS with a legitimate shot at the title game, then the Stanzi injury and it all went down the drain so fast. I feel bad for you because a team like Iowa won't be in that position again anytime soon...well, hope you get a decent bowl anyway.

17. What exactly is so wrong with the Pac-10?
I don't get into these silly arguments about which conference is overrated but I will defend the Pac-10. You got 6 teams currently in the race for the title. Stanford, Oregon, Arizona, USC, Oregon State, and California. All of those teams are 7-3. Arizona State and UCLA are the middle teams, I will say Arizona State's defense has been the best in the conference however they have had awful play from Sullivan which makes the motto "defense wins championships" a myth, you need a reasonable successful offense and the only game they were blown out in was against Stanford who btw has the best offensive team in the Pac 10. Yeah Washington and Washington State are the bottom feeders but the Huskies has played well. It's a very good conference that is solid from top to Washington State(WSU doesn't count as a solid team).

To compare that balance to the Big 12 is laughable. 10 years ok but as of late it's the Texas and Oklahoma conference that manages to put a few other decent teams, Texas Tech had it's greatest season last year but back to form this year.

21. 7-3 means you are losing to other teams in the Pac 10
Actually Oregon is 7-2 and I hope they lose to Arizona State to make them 7-3 but that isn't likely going to happen. If that is standard of mediocrity then what does it say about the Big 12 with one undefeated team but just 3 other teams at 6-3 or better.

Stanford, Oregon State, Oregon are very tough teams, throw in USC, Cal, and Arizona you got a great group of teams.

USC is the PAC 10's. Like it or not. I have to laugh. This team has thrown in the towel. No fight, whatsoever. Let's just see if the national media gangs up on Petey the way they ganged up on Tressel and the Bucks a couple of years back. I doubt they will. eSECpn won't. I've never seen a team with more talent with less heart than the Trojans. And, it's a pleasure to watch. Oregon. Say nothing more than reinstating the piece-of-shit Blount. Says it all, doesn't it?

23. Stanford is by far the better team
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 11:07 PM by JonLP24
I don't know what the hell flag ship means but in this case it doesn't mean they are best team in the conference. Andrew Luck is the scariest QB in the Pac 10, he is better than Barkley or Locker by a lot. Gerhart, just look at his numbers. The leading rusher in the Pac 10 and he is damn near impossible to stop at goal line or short yardage situations. It's not USC's fault for losing to Stanford, I haven't seen many teams stop Stanford and Oregon State fans will tell you the only reason why they beat them was because a receiver dropped a perfect touchdown pass by Andrew Luck and they folded with a big lead late against Arizona.

24. Flagship means the premier team of the conference.
USC has always been the PAC-10's. OSU (with Michigan) has always been the Big Ten's. Sure, it might differ a little year to year. But, Jon. USC always gets the best talent. As does OSU. In the Big Ten. But not CLOSE to USC's. It's an extreme pleasure watching USC fail with the nations best recruiting class, every year. The Upton's of the world will never understand that. 90% of America want's to see these pricks lose.

28. I'm not sure about this year
I don't doubt they get one of the best recruiting classes but they are inexperienced this year. Last year they lost Brian Cushing, Rey Maualuga, Clay Matthews, Mark Sanchez, etc to the draft. Also solid backup RB had weight lifting accident, hopefully the NCAA let's him play next year on a medical redshirt. No matter how good the recruits you're not going to be a title contender with a bunch of redshirt and sophmores.

Speaking of LaGerrette Blount, I'm watching the game now and he hasn't played a down yet. #21 is running the ball well as it is.

26. I know better than to weigh in...
on these sorts of things. I happen to agree with you Jon - I'm not much of a my conference is better than yours kind of gal. Disclaimer - I grew up in the SEC and went to Georgia as an undergrad. (Go Dawgs!) I also happen to agree that parity in a conference can be a sign that the conference is solid throughout. That said, both the SEC and the Big 10 have been consistently solid conferences that have been beating each other up for years. How lovely it would be if the PAC-10 has reached the same point.

Some of the hostility is probably because the Big 10 gets a lot of guff, shall we say, for losing in bowl games. It's not a great way to judge eleven teams seasons' worth of football. And I won't even go into the location of the bowl games and how many Big 10 opponents are essentially playing at home.

8. A Lesson in Civility
It appears there are some (and I'm not mentioning names, but this thread is a fine example) who need to see how this works.

Fine work Buckeyes. Though I am far from a fan, it was a solid game and your win was hard won. Good job. Go to the Rose Bowl and do us here in the Big Ten proud.

As for the Hawks, maybe there are people who only understand life in terms of black and white, win and lose. I am far sorrier for people who have no respect for life's ambiguities, what a sad way to spend your life. Those boys play with heart and soul and love for game and are already years beyond anyone who thinks that loss in Columbus is anything to be anything other than completely proud of.

10. Thank you!
For a couple of years, even last season had an ugly tinge of it, we recruited a lot of blue chippers. You would have thought that we would have been great! They were a horrible fit for a slightly sleepy, very cold midwestern town. They were an even worse fit for a football program that plays slow, methodical, gut-it-out kind of ball. It was a disaster and those teams were so thoroughly unlikable that going to games was starting to become a chore. I didn't even care if we won so much because I didn't really like what the players thought our team stood for. We're not ooooh shiny here in Iowa, we won't have any players going to LA bars with the stars. You know what isn't that a lot more like life? Good kids who are just pretty damned normal and average, but work their gd asses off.

And so again, thank you. I l-o-v-e winning, but am cognizant of the potential cost.

11. To Condem and Happyiowan...you guys deserved that win tonight.
Your freshman QB has incredible poise and a really good arm. You got a bright future with him.

I thought for sure it was going to be Iowa's night when the receiver caught the jump ball with three red jerseys around him. Its those kind of plays that can break a team's confidence.

Now go get the Floyd of Rosedale trophy from the Gophers and good luck in your bowl.

An aside: Jim Tressel is a pussy. His play calling, especially in tight games, drives me batty. I knew we were going to lose to both Texas and USC because he goes into prevent for the last two minutes of the game. I'm not sure why Iowa did not take their shots tonight.

Also, Tressel, you have a Ferrari in your garage, but you drive it like a station wagon. For the love of God, let Pryor run. Who cares if you never turn him into a pro QB; he'll be a receiver instead.

And you're right - lord, I spent the whole game terrified they'd let Pryor run.

A couple of big-name sites (College Football News, CBS) has Iowa in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State, providing we beat Minnesota.
What a slap to the Big Ten bashers that would be. It comes down to $$$ whether you like it or not. And we put people in the seats. Not to mention the amount of Iowa snowbirds already in AZ.
After all is said and done, I think Stanzi would have fared no better than Vandenberg. Possibly worse. Oh well. Like I said. We (OSU & The Hawks) gave the nation a great game. The talk about Iowa being a fraud is done.

I was defending the Pac 10. Oregon only lost by 10 in their only loss against Stanford has the best QB and RB in the Pac 10 so I doubt most teams in the country can hold their offense. I see you mentioned USC and Cal and it's clear you don't follow the Pac-10 that closely because the leaders are Oregon, Stanford, Arizona, Oregon State. <-- Those are pretty good teams. Like I said it's all the balance and what does it say about the Pac 10 if recognizable teams such as USC and Cal are ranked in 5th and 6th in the Pac 10.

until about the 4th week of the season. Previous to that, the Ducks were being booed at Autzen in the wins over Purdue and Utah. Since then, Oregon has put up 40 in 6 of their last 7 games... last night they embarrassed a decent ASU defense 48-21.

USC and Cal is #5 and #6 in the Conference. So Oregon didn't look good against an undefeated Boise State team is no knock on the overall conference. They were in that game the whole time. When you look at all the teams and see how they are doing they are very good.

As far as the Big 10 goes I don't bash them. I even defend the WAC when it comes to Boise State and Fresno State and sometimes Hawaii puts out a very good team.
