Sox hang on for the win.
Foulke tried to give it away, but the Sox managed a six five win over the Blue Jays.

And in other news, the Orioles are whuppin' up on the Yanks 11 to 4! :)

9. I meant as a whole sense
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 09:38 PM by JohnKleeb
When was the last time you guys won a series? The Yankees are getting old. I just think getting a new big name free agent year isn't the solution to everything, I do think Tino Martinez was a smart aquaisination.

14. the Yanks have won 100 games every year since 2002
this is not a team in decline. Its a team that hasn't closed the deal.

18. They seem like they get to closing the deal but miss it
Got one game away from winning the ACLS last year, one game from winning the series the year before that. They're a good team but the solution they've been using is wrong, what wins those close late post season games isn't a big name player but heart.

21. Kleeb
I love ya, but heart has nothing to do with it. Did they not show heart when they came back against Boston in game 7 of 2003. They lost because they didn't finish the job. Mo gets the save in game 4 and everything is fine. And don't tell me MO doesn't have heart.

Baseball is won by talent, not heart.

24. I just think the yanks front office is extremely naive to think getting
a new big name player every year is gonna magically get them another series title. Like sure the new name will do good, I bet you that Johnson wins 15-20 games this year, I'll also make a fair bet and say Pavano wins 15. I

26. the big names have not hurt their chances of winning
in fact, the failure of the old names is what really killed them last year.

27. I didnt say hurt but it hasnt dramatically improved their chances either
I admit it I am bitter because you guys seem to get what we got in Tejada every year, and I know that's partially our front office's fault for flat out not caring.

28. well
RJ and Pavano will definitely help. Schilling sure helped Boston and he's a big name. Manny was a big name when they signed him too.

Baltimore's problem now is that they can't get guys to take their money. The Yanks went through that in the early 90s.

Sighhhhhhh I sound like a bitter baby I know, its just I really did put things in perspective and I realized that the last time the orioles were good was when I was actually good at baseball.

33. I think Hudson is declining
his strikeout rates are declining the last few years. He wouldn't have re-signed in Baltimore. He wanted to play for the Braves.

Sigh the years when people actually wanted to play for that organization. At least the nationals have some promise.

shit, as much as I adamantly dislike the Yankees at least they are smart when it comes to important things like respecting the authority of the manager, thats why Johnson got canned.

16. Can't control the aging process--
These guys have given us Yankee fans some wonderful moments over the last 10 or so years.
The Yanks win 90-95 games this year. Count it. And that's a decline?
These guys still have a lot of life left in them.
I agree that some guys are aging a bit but to say "as a whole sense" is a little absurd. Just think about it. When was the last time a team had the success that the Yanks had. The A's in the 70's? Maybe.
The Braves of the 90's. Maybe.
It's just that people expect the Yanks to always win and when they don't people are like "oh, they suck"
Even if the Yanks don't win the Series, they'll still be one of the top 5 teams in baseball.

30. the 1998-99 team
was one of the best of all time. The 96 team isn't as good as the team of the last few years. Their opposition wasn't as good and they went on a magical run. The 2000 team was pretty mediocre. They got hot at the right time.

19. I don't think they are close at all
no pitching and some of their regulars are on the downside. They were a below average team in terms of obp last year too and that is the most important offensive stat in my view.

Had it not been for a 12 game losing streak mid season, this team would have been at 500 easily.

Like fans of both the Yanks and Sox can be bitter all they like about past oppertunites but at least they're making the playoffs. To put things in perspective people. I admit it I am bitter but consider this. In my life the orioles have less division titles than the Yankees do championships, thats such a drag.
