Pac-10 official suspended for blown call in game between USC and Oregon State
A Pac-10 game official was suspended today for failing to make the appropriate personal foul call after a blatant facemask in the Trojans' game against the Beavers on last Saturday night.

The Associated Press is reporting that, while neither the player who committed the facemask or the official involved were named, it is understood that the foul occurred on a play that ended with an Oregon State player's helmet being completely knocked off.

It is believed that the play in question occurred in the fourth quarter when All-American safety, Taylor Mays, delivered a big hit on Beavers' wideout James Rodgers, “removing his helmet.”

Earlier in the week, I discussed Mays' growing penchants for delivering hits that are viewed by the league as being, “blatant and dangerous.”

1. Taylor Mays is a Roy Williams clone
Can't cover worth a damn but has a misplaced reputation as a star due to big hits.

An NFL team will never be able to hide him at safety. He needs to be switched to LB.

2. I haven't heard of a S switching to LB before in the NFL

I'm sure it has happen but just can't remember. I can think of a couple of examples but not the way you mentioned.

Pat Tillman was a linebacker at Arizona State but the Cardinals switched him to Strong Safety. Similar but different with Terrell Suggs. He was a DE at Arizona State but the Ravens switched him to LB.

Just a question wouldn't Mays size have an effect playing LB? Not entirely familiar with Mays with the exception of the reputation he has especially as a hard hitter.

I'm not questioning your knowledge which seems far superior than mine.

3. Urlacher
He was an oversized safety at New Mexico because he was the fastest defensive player.

He was targeted as a LB by pretty much every team that had an eye on him for the draft. But, he was a college safety.

4. I did not know that
I think Urlacher played some offense there as well. I know New Mexico is very poor at recruiting so perhaps they needed him as the last line of defense. Anyways I looked at Mays height and weight and is about the same size as Adrian Wilson who certainly can play linebacker if asked too.
