8. No spitball here: MLB says Yankees' Rivera is OK
Video that appeared to show New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera spitting on the ball made the Internet rounds Tuesday, with Major League Baseball saying there was no reason to consider any discipline.

A YouTube clip from Fox's broadcast of Monday's Game 3 of the American League championship series between the Yankees and Los Angeles Angels showed Rivera staring at the ball and then spitting. Because of the camera angle, it appeared the saliva landed on the ball.

"You will see that the spit is never on the ball," Rivera said Tuesday.

"If you guys locate (the spit), I'll take you anywhere, anywhere, I mean anywhere in the world," he said, joking with reporters. "But if you guys don't locate (it), you're going to have to take me."

10. Selig is nothing more than a pawn
of the big money owners, particularly Steinbrenner....do you honestly think he would come down on Rivera during the ALCS? Hell, he could have been waving a jar of Vaseline out there and got away with it.

Watch the video in slow motion, judge for yourself:

21. It took them a couple of hours to find a broom and a carpet
to sweep this one under the rug. They concluded "From the available video and still pictures that we have, there's no evidence that Rivera spit on the ball," the spokesman said. That appears to be the end of MLB's inquiry, although a source says the investigation could be reopened if there is new evidence.

I'm skeptical that Rivera would have done something so blatant, but then I've often been surprised by the stupidity that some professional athletes display.

15. Yeah, he's going to do that with every camera and ump on him.
By the way, you don't spit on the ball for a spitter.

17. Like I said to Jon
judge for yourself. ..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-KGmVqN-kA&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_fresh+div-HM

Rivera has his back to home plate and he checks out the second and third base umps before doing the deed. I guess it could be the angle, but it sure looks incriminating.

18. I've seen it and I'm not buying it.
And you know I'm no Yankees lover. You don't actually spit on the ball to throw a spitter. And even if the umps aren't looking do you really think Rivera is stupid enough to do it with 8 brazillion cameras from around the planet on him? I don't. I could be wrong, and I'd love to have some dirt on the Yankees to mock them with, but I just don't think this is it.
