Mercury win 2nd WNBA championship

Champions, once again.

The Mercury are the WNBA's best for the second time in the past three seasons after defeating the Indiana Fever 94-86 on Friday night in a decisive Game 5 of the Finals at US Airways Center.

After the game, just before the purple and yellow confetti fell, DeWanna Bonner, Tangela Smith, Diana Taurasi, and Cappie Pondexter all stood on top of the scorer's table to celebrate with the sellout crowd of 17,313. It was fitting. All four had a hand in the victory that clinched the championship.

"I never, never want to give it back," Taurasi said. "It was such a nice feeling when that buzzer went off. For all of us. When the buzzer rang, we knew we did something special. We did it as a group."

The Mercury, who trailed 2-1 in the series, finally received the type of game they expected from Taurasi, the league and Finals MVP. After struggling with her shot for four games, Taurasi scored a game-high 26 points and shot 7 of 15 from the field. She made four of her last five 3-point attempts.
