Yankee Stadium to host bowl game
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Starting next season, a bowl game will be held at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and commissioners from the Big East and Big 12 conferences have scheduled a news conference for Wednesday to announce the formation of the Yankee Bowl.

According to an SI.com report, the bowl series will begin in the 2010-11 postseason and will pit the Big East's fourth-place team against the seventh- ranked team in the Big 12.

The series is yet to be certified by the NCAA, but if approved would be the 35th bowl game in the Football Bowl Subdivision. It would also mark the first bowl game in New York City since Nebraska played Miami in the 1962 Gotham Bowl at the original Yankee Stadium.

1. They have to do something to pay for the stadium
All those empty seats sure can't help.

14. Actually the Yankees are currently second to the Dodgers
in average per game...plus they only fill up 87.7% of their seats.

21. I stand corrected
that's a difference of 200 per game. Not filled with empty seats as the post I'm responding to claimed. The new stadium is a huge success.

3. The Gotham Bowl!

It reminds me for some reason of the show "Coach". Minnesota State finally pulled itself out of the basement, and for a prize, went to, as the preview described it, "The John Hancock Bowl, in wintry Valley Forge". I hope Bosshog's team plays in it and they have to shovel the yard lines out!

We haven't had a good argument about cold weather bowls with Boss in a while!

5. I wish they had the Super Bowl in places like
Giants Stadium, Buffalo, Chicago, Green Bay, Denver, etc. But the NFL prefers warm city locations or indoor stadiums up north.

20. Free Hog Hats to the first 100,000 fans to enter the stadium
HOG fans travel very well. Hence the regular game V Texas A&M in Jerry's Dome this Saturday. I bet they'll be more Hog Fans there then Aggies.

If only the Big Ten played in more temperate weather, then they'd be big and bad like the SEC.

18. Yes, they do.
Michigan briefly had a bowl (now kind of morphed into the GMAC bowl) called The Cherry Bowl. The name didn't last very long, but I liked it.

19. Lisa thats so sweet of you
There's only three SEC teams in the top four this week. It was 58 degrees this morning, I'll probably have to shovel snow by this weekend.

12. I'd definitely watch it!
If we had this bowl last year it the matchup would've been Kansas(7-5) vs Rutgers(7-5) both of those teams won in their bowl game last year so they both ended up with a record of 8-5. It may not be a BCS Bowl Game but that matchup should be able to provide good and exciting football teams.

17. Not in NYC
It's an extremely rare opportunity for NYers. Rutgers is not too far away and the Army-Navy game is 2 hours away in Philly. This is in the heart of NYC!
