3. I got to give them credit for hanging tough.
I said it would take a miracle, but they're still in it. Be nice if they can take this Dodgers series (does ANYONE like the Dodgers...and if so, why?).

The real question is, what happened in that Sharks game last night? I watched the game and I can't tell if the Sharks looked horrid, the Canucks looked awesome, or both. I know it's only preseason but it was pretty listless for a bunch of guys fighting for a roster spot. And the friggin' Sedin brothers looked in midseason form already. Those guys can make any team look lost.

9. I'll go with "it's only pre season"
no Thornton, Heatley, Setoguchi, Boyle, Nabby etc. I didn't watch the game, but it sounds like new backup goaltender Thomas Greiss wasn't at his best, I hope he doesn't become a problem..

I am concerned that at present the Sharks are a two line team...they've lost Grier, Goc, Moen, Cheechoo, Michalek, and Roenick, all of whom were 3rd and 4th line players. McClellan got to put together a couple representative lines that'll give the Sharks some quality ice time..then there's the penalty kill, the moving of Erhoff and Lukovich to Vancouver (cap space problems) leaving a couple holes in the D.

Still some things to be ironed out, but that's what preseason is for..

15. There was a couple of goals they would like to have back, but only one that was real weak.
The goalies are still getting the timing and angles down, and it was just a low five hole shot from the face off circle. Nothing awful, but he should have had it. Other than that it was the Sedin Brothers Show, and there was nothing the goalies could do on a few.

As for the depth, that's what had me scratching my head. Many of these guys will be the 3rd and 4th line guys, and only a couple looked hungry. In front of a pretty decent crowd for a preseason game even. The lack of spirit worries me with them, and it's cost them in the past. I think if they find that the lack of depth is partially alleviated, because in hockey just that tiny bit extra makes a difference all the time.

It's going to be a tougher year out there this year, but they're definitely a playoff team, and in some ways not being in 1st may benefit them and take some of that early round pressure off. I think the Bruins will be hard pressed to finish 1st overall as well, though they should be close. If the Pens play like they can they could walk away with it though.

2. Man. Smoltzie looked good...
A shaky first inning. Then the old pro settled down.

5. It's good to see him doing well.
He struck me a good guy when he was here in Boston, he just couldn't get it done in the AL.

7. Can't figure that one out, Fork.
National League tendancies, I guess. Been a fan since my Savannah days in the early 90's. Like to see him make the Hall.

8. A mixture of that and the AL just being more hitter friendly.
With the DH AL teams just load up on hitters right down the lineup.

I think he'll easily make the Hall. His numbers as both a started and a reliever are excellent, and he was part of one the deadliest pitching staffs in history in Atlanta. There's no question, in my mind at least, that he deserves to be there.

4. Some races are getting interesting...but ones that were interesting...
...like the AL Wild Card, aren't...could the Rangers just decide to forfeit the rest of their games? The results are gonna be the same.

10. No one is excited about this awesome Cleveland-Oakland series?

Get past it looks like two high school teams playing each other. Actually, it's pretty interesting -- the A's look to be a year ahead of Cleveland, IMO. Lots of potential on either side. Should everything go as planned both could be poised to contend for the playoffs in 2011-2012.

11. Actually, games between two equal teams, good or bad, is usually entertaining.
