Say what you will, but I like Bobby Knight.
98% graduation rate for his players. He emphasizes a team style of play, not individual one on one style. He doesn't even let his players have their name on the back of their jerseys because he thinks when they are on the floor they are a team not individuals. In the off season he works constantly to drum up money for charities.

Sure he is an asshole sometimes, but I like him.

1. Texas Tech is doing a great job right at the moment
Since my team is big twelve, I'm cheering for them. Also, I'm tired of hearing about Gonzaga.

3. I'm sick of Gonzaga too.
Evey year it is the same old crap. The announcers need to realize that a #3 seed is not a underdog anymore.

6. Well they are going home now
HAHAHAHA. I just love it at half time when those talking heads said that Tech didn't have a chance to catch up.

7. That made my day.
I hate those announcers. They get on the band wagon and never give teams a chance.

2. ME too
I always rooted for IU except when they played Vanderbilt and now am becoming a Texas Tech fan because of the wild man

yeah he is an asshole, but his players have a chance at doing something else and making a good life for themselves after basketball.

4. Being a good coach does not excuse him.
Bob Knight's behavior would be unacceptable from anybody.

He wiped his butt w/ toilet paper @ I.U. and waved it in front
of his players' faces and said, "This is what your a playing like."
I.U. let him coach for 10 years after that.

Yes, I like his man on man d, his rotation offense, and graduating
his players is what he is supposed to do but his ego driven
bully like actions are in excusable.

5. I've read stories about toilet paper incident...
... and I think it turned out that it wasn't really poo on it. His actions may be hard to swallow but at least he hold his players to a high standard. You won't find a player on his team who is taking drugs, skipping classes, or in legal trouble. You can't say that about other schools, besides maybe Duke.

Besides that he manages to win games with moderately skilled players. He doesn't get the top recruits like UNC, UK, or Duke but he still manages to put up 20 win seasons every year.

8. But what about throwing a potted plant @ the A.D.'s secretary?
Shooting his own kid in the butt while hunting without a license out
of season?

The man did and still does get skilled players. Knowledge of basketball
does not excuse his boorish behavior. Any faculty member, student,
college staff person, or college president would have been fired and
or thrown off campus pdq if they had done just one thing that Coach
Knight has done. His I know more than you so you have take my shit
style also is more than a little off putting.

Besides the man used a moving pic @ IU for years and dared the refs
to call it. He is a bully.

10. Knight has lived his life under a microscope through his whole career.
If other coaches lived their life under the scrutiny he has had to they would look like monsters too. I have a friend who is an defensive assistant for a very high ranked division one football team and the stories he has told me about his own coaches make even the worst Bob Knight story pale in comparison. You only hear about Bobby's because he is famous for his temper not because worse than any other coach.

11. With out a doubt Knight has done good things but ....
.... In no way does that excuse his actions. Under a microscope?*
Give me a break. The man is a bully. I know people in the media
who had to interview him for a living, he lived to be a pain in the
ass to all he considered "not worthy" of his respect.

And just because other coaches behave poorly that does not excuse
coach Knight for what he has done.

* Throwing the plant a 60 year old women happened years
ago ..... it just came out not to long ago.

So on monday throw a potted plant @ your boss's Admin. Asst.
and find out what happens to you.

12. Bob Knight is a lousy role model
He genuinely believes that he is bigger than the team and whatever school he works for. He got away with an awful lot of crap at Indiana because he was winning, and the people running the school (until Myles Brand) lacked a spine. There are too many high school coaches who have followed his negative traits, bullying the school boards and superintendents.

13. He may have improved a little since then
Today, he would have had *many* reasons to get more riled than he did. The game against the Zags was phenomenal.

To quote from my own blog earlier today (http://bennycat.blogspot.com):

The TTU Raiders have not been to a Sweet 16 in nearly 10 years. Whether one likes Bobby Knight or not, his team functioned as a team. They made several mistakes, got off-balanced, showed their hand (offensive strategy) too quickly at times, but in the end, TTU's defensive plays were aggressive, and the Zags saw a 13 point lead melt. They had one really good player, Morrison, but the team relied too heavily on him to make all of the big plays. Teams win games when they function like teams. Bob Knight's Red Raiders did. And like a little known man from Robbins, NC who won a US Senate seat in 1998, they were the little engine that could: with heart, faith, and endurance.
