1. I think it would be nice of the Yankees to try losing for a bit.

4. I can't say much as a Sox fan.
They were right at the top a few years back.

7. What else can they do when the Yankees spend so much?
Otherwise it's Indians/A's syndrome -- compete for a few years, trade away your free agents, rebuild, and hope for the best. At least the Sox are in it year after year. I think Theo Epstein has done a great job.

If you haven't already, I recommend reading "The Yankees Years" by Joe Torre. It covers, in part, how the BoSox had to adapt to compete with the Yankees.

9. Yup, all the Yankee whiner nutjobs are talking about how it was steroids that got
2004 and 2007 for America's Team, but it was money that did it.

12. It was a combination of having a great coach and a lot of talent...
Francona drives me nuts, but he was perfect for 2004 and 2007, as he just let the players play and motivate themselves...especially 2004...they had the desire, and they needed someone laid back who would just let that desire burn.

And I think you're going to be a Cleaveland whiner nutjob for a few more years after their throwing up their hands and giving up on this season! :toast:

13. A Red Sox fan calling Francona...
a great coach??

I didn't think such a person existed!

14. Two championships in 4 years...he's doing something right!
He does get a lot of grief because he seems to take things in stride too much.

And you forgot the sarcasm emoticon!

5. That "Best Team Money Can Buy" retort only seems...
to come up when high-salaried teams are doing well.

When the teams suck (as the Mets do now), all you hear is "Ha ha...see? It's impossible to buy a championship!!"

So what is it? Is it impossible to buy a championship, or do high salaried teams have the upper hand?

6. The Mets are the exception this year...the majority of the higher payroll teams
are the ones in contention right now.

8. Until baseball can change the salary structure, they will continue to be dominated
by the teams at the top of the list that can and are willing to far outspend the rest of the clubs.

Until they can force a min/max team salary structure, nothing will change. Looking at the numbers, forcing the teams to say have at least $80M min and $100M would allow team the ability to be competitive, as is done in the NFL.

Though it will probably never happen

2. Too bad the Dolphins could only get 2 field goals against the Texans
Texans must have a good defense this season.
