t's a fact: We're wading through deep, dark times. And there's only one man who can guide us out:

No sure thing it will happen, but ESPN analyst and former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz was meeting with Republican leaders in Washington Thursday about the prospect of challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas. Holtz, 72 and living in the Orlando area, would surely be a terrific money-raiser and bring loads of attention to that seat.

You may not think so, but I couldn't be more positive that Holtz would be a political natural, because a) At the college level, all head coaches are first and foremost politicians, in that they seek to raise money, ingratiate themselves to a specific constituency and are called on to project a certain moral authority, and b) Beneath his recently lovable exterior, Holtz is at heart a ruthless, pathologically competitive man who will stop at nothing to crush his opponents....

Which makes him a natural opposition Republican. For more proof, watch the clips below, wherein Holtz displays both the necessary passion/obstinance of a heavy-hitting politico in defense of Tim Tebow against Colt McCoy last October and, while appearing on one of Sean Hannity's shows in March, the pitch-perfect, "aw shucks" incredulity toward those liberal wackos who have been brainwashed enough to take their cues from the overwhelming consensus of "mainstream science":
