49ers reveal details of Santa Clara stadium plan
Looks nicer than the Urinal Dome in Dallas

The 49ers haven't decided whether the proposed new stadium in Santa Clara will have grass on the field, but they know for sure it will have plants on the roof.

Presenting the Santa Clara City Council with its first detailed view of the stadium design, 49ers officials and architects with HNTB Architecture revealed a vision Tuesday evening for a 68,500-seat venue glistening with solar panels, a "vegetated" roof of California native plants, use of recycled water and plans to have more than a quarter of fans arrive on public transportation.

1. Basically it's a sad knock-off of M&T Bank Stadium. Of all stadiums to copy!

You'd think the forty-whiners could do better than that!

2. What I notice is the luxury suites will have the sun at their backs
while the majority of the fans, opposite, will be looking into it.

4. Could be blinding in the late afternoon -- hard for fans to see.
Depends how everything is eventually oriented. Can't speak for Candlestick since I haven't been there since the last Giants night game.

My point is that the corporate folk with money to burn get the ideal seats. A lot of die-hard faithful get to look (possibly) into the sun.

6. Well, again, unless the game starts past the usual 1PM kick off, I've never
been to a Niner contest where I've found myself complaining about the sun.

But maybe my eyes aren't as light sensitive as other people!

It was probably a nightmare back in the day when the place had AstroTurf!

5. It's going to be a great stadium.
I look forward to attending a game there in an upcoming season.

7. I sure hope the voters approve this thing
with San Francisco basically doing nothing, it looks like Santa Clara is the only place they'll get a new stadium.

8. So you are expecting the tax payers to finance that horrific looking stadium?
Given that CA is facing a massive deficit, you think the voters will vote for higher taxes for an abortion of a stadium.

9. Only a small portion
it's a $937 million stadium and the 49ers are asking for $114 million in public money. The voters of Santa Clara will have an opportunity to vote on it next spring.

10. I drove by Candlestick yesterday on the way home from the airport and
with the exception of the nearby wind surfers .. the place looked so deserted and sad.

Not quite as sad, however, that the Cowboys haven't won a single playoff game since the early 1990's.

How humiliating.

But at least they have their new stainless steel toilet bowl "stadium."

11. Good call
it does look like a toilet bowl...probably will smell like one too, once it's packed full of rednecks.

14. Well, coming from you two, that really doesn't mean much. I figured
you would find a way to insert your potty humor into this thread.

Sad, just very sad.
