i was definitely impressed with their play - they never gave up.
And I agree about the tourney being permanently in kc when the sprint center opens in 2007. The only good thing about the tourney in Dallas is the American Airlines Arena. I believe the good citizens of kc should have a contest to see which resident gets to flip the switch and get rid of kemper forever! Unfortunately, it's not going anywhere because it has a 99 yr deal with the American Royal.
I believe that longterm we will see an agreement that has the football and basketball conference championships split between KC and Dallas. When Dallas opens the new football stadium and we open the Sprint Center it will be ideal. Football champ at arrowhead one year while bball champ at American. Next year football would be in Dallas and bball would be sprint center.
Regardless of locale, it's going to suck when they cut off beer sales next year. It's a bad deal for the fans and the city. I wish the NCAA and conferences would get off their high moral horses. 80% or more of the fans are grown adults - mostly middle aged - who take their vacation, spend $330 per seat, $200 night hotel, $15 parking per session (2 sessions a day), flights, rental cars, etc. Who gives a shit if they want to have a beer during the game while on their vacation? Not to mention the fact that the city donates use of the building to draw the tourney. They primarily make their money on beer sales. Take that away and the tourney suffers. Not to mention the fact that fans will spend more time in "beer gardens" just off property (Golden Ox in kc already makes money hand over fist there) and they will just "load up' before they come in the arena or sneak in booze. Either way, the city loses and i can't really see how the fans gain. Some might argue that fans drink too much, but i've been going to the tourney for years and i've never once seen a fight in the arena.
And again, i will reiterate that we need to drop Baylor and add Arkansas!
