Fan falls from Busch Stadium upper deck
ST. LOUIS | A 34-year-old man fell headfirst from the upper deck at Busch Stadium on to the concourse below before the St. Louis Cardinals played the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

Chris Hoffman of O'Fallon, Ill., was taken to a hospital for observation. Joe Walsh, director of stadium operations, said Hoffman was being treated for an injury to his left shoulder, a gash to his face and assorted bumps and bruises.

Witnesses said it appeared the man fainted in the 92-degree heat, although the team said it was unclear whether the fall was related to the weather. Walsh said the fan fell on to an empty seat after grazing a nearby female fan.

The fan apparently toppled over a front-row railing and fell about one story to the concourse while a youth choir was singing "God Bless America." The fan was strapped to a gurney and wheeled away shortly after the game began.

St. Louis had its 10th straight day of temperatures in the 90s, which is not unusual this time of year. The Cardinals turned down a request by the city's public safety director to reschedule weekend day games to evening hours to best avoid heat-related problems because it was too late to alter television and stadium workers' schedules.

1. Re: "the fan fell ... after grazing a nearby female fan."
He probably groped her and she slugged him for it causing him to go over the rail.

2. Lets make up a story about a sexual assault when there is no evidence of such!
Maybe he had a health condition and fainted?

Maybe he was just drunk and not paying attention.

But no, lets just jump straight to he sexually assaulted a woman and she pushed him over the edge.

11. While the kids were singing "God Bless America"
He was obviously overcome by patriotism, had a backflash to the famous pic of a soldier copping a smooch after WWII, groped the woman sitting next to him, and she threw his ass over the railing. :)

5. The way it reads...
Walsh said the fan fell on to an empty seat after grazing a nearby female fan.

He grazed her mid-fall, and hit the empty seat. A few inches one way or the other, and 2 people could have been seriously hurt. :scared:

10. I didn't read it that way at all.
he fell ONTO the empty seat after grazing a female fan. ...On the way down, he grazed the woman, and then hit the empty seat.

Maybe the wording should have been a little different...like perhaps saying he LANDED on an empty seat after grazing the woman.

13. I realized after my initial post that I had misread it,
but I decided to leave the post intact since I liked my version better anyway. }( Yes, it's true. I'm not always PC, and I don't care either! B-)

9. Oh man, that makes me feel faint!
Scary stuff. He's awfully lucky if he got away with just a shoulder injury!

12. If he had landed on a seat occupied by a woman he probably would have groped her too.

15. Lucky guy!
To come off it with so few injuries.

Methinks that he may have helped the heat with a few brewskis.

18. The dangers of patriotism
He hears "God Bless America" and snaps to his feet in a rush of pride for his country. After one chant of "USA", he suddenly gets dizzy and tumbles over the railing.

Let this be a lesson to us all.
