Sharks snubbed at NHL Awards
Obviously I'm biased, but you would think the coach of the team that won the Presidents Trophy, in an award based on the regular season, would finish better than 3rd in the voting for the Jack Adams Award. Dan Boyle had a great year, most fans would say he was the most valuable Shark, yet he could do no better than 5th for the Norris Trophy. Which brings us to Lady Byng, I'm sick and tired of Pavel Datsyuk having a seemingly permanent hold on the award...there are other players in the NHL, including Patrick Marleau, who demonstrate gentlemanly play and skill.

Is there an East coast bias in the NHL Award voting?..Of course there is, it rears it's ugly head in every other sport.... the NHL's certainly not immune.

JACK ADAMS
1. Claude Julien, BOS 224
2. Andy Murray, STL 135
3. Todd McLellan, S.J. 98

NORRIS
1. Zdeno Chara, BOS 1034
2. Mike Green, WSH 982
3. Nicklas Lidstrom, DET 733
4. Shea Weber, NSH 186
5. Dan Boyle, S.J. 173

LADY BYNG
1. Pavel Datsyuk, DET 933
2. Martin St. Louis, T.B. 662
3. Zach Parise, N.J. 521
4. Patrick Marleau, S.J. 203

1. Yup, it's an East Coast bias
Of course it is. Absolutely. What else could it be? Talent, maybe?

3. I see
You can be assured if Todd Mclellan had done a similar job (leading his team to the most points in the NHL) with a club on the east coast...he would have finished much better than a distant third in the Jack Adams voting.

Most fans out west accept the fact that there's an east coast bias..the NHL awards are just the latest example.

16. And that's why Andy Murray coaching in St Louis
Finished with more votes.

Cause there's an east coast bias.

YOu and CBoy, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, post the dumbest arguments I've ever seen on any given message board. This belongs with the flat earth society and the 9/11 controlled demolition crap.

It's the East Coast bias.

It's the payroll,

It's the attendance.

The reality is that it's all bullshit.

4. I don't begrudge Chara or Julien winning
their respective awards. I was tired of seeing Lidstrom winning the Norris anyway, Julien did an excellent job and I think Thomas probably deserved the Vezina. I do question the voting however, particularly in the case of McLellan..a distant third smells of east coast bias.

17. We all could figure that Lisa
but Lidstrom's won it what now...6 times?

And what about Datsyuk, don't you think it's time the Lady Byng went to somebody else? For example, Patrick Marleau had more goals (Datsyuk had more points) and less penalty minutes, St Louis and Parise were excellent candidates as well.

The Professional Hockey Writers' Association has got their favorites and Datsyuk is one of them.

8. The thing about the coaches award, is that it doesn't necessarily go
to the coach of the best team. McLellan did a great job this year, but since he was starting with the previous year's second best team, it's sort of assumed he'll do well. The Bruins finished 15th in the NHL in 07-08 and second (by only 1 point) to the Sharks this year. McLellan was a victim of his own previous success. If SJ had just missed the playoffs the previous year, he definitely would have gotten it.

Even though I think he was deserving, I never claimed Boyle should have won the Norris. What I did say was he should have finished a lot higher than a poor 5th. East coast bias devalued the contributions of both Boyle and McLellan in their respective categories.

13. If it anyone got screwed there it was Mark Streit
but I ain't fucking whining about it.

He had a much better year than Boyle playing on a dead last team. He played in three fewer games than Boyle and 1 point behing. Streits and Boyles +/- are equal.

Streit also finished with more points than Weber and a better +/-.

Get out of here with this whiny crap.

14. That reminds me
how pathetic were last year's Islanders? Streit had 56 points AND HE LED THE TEAM IN SCORING!!

Last in points

29th in goals scored

Last in attendance

Hey but look out...the Islanders are having a "sold out" draft party
