Gay priest candidate to become bishop of Episcopal Diocese of Newark

An out and openly gay priest from San Francisco is one of four candidates to become the 10th Episcopal Bishop of Newark presented by the diocesan Search/Nominating Committee, the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark announced today.

The Very Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, Congregational Development Officer for the Diocese of California, was also one of the LGBT candidates in the recent election of a new bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of California.

The other three candidates are:

The Rev. Mark Beckwith, rector, All Saints Church in Worcester, MA

The Very Rev. Petero Sabune, pastor and Protestant Chaplain, Sing-Sing Correctional Facility and associate at Trinity Church, Ossining New York
*
The Rev. William "Chip" Stokes, rector, St. Paul's Church in Delray Beach, FL.
