Vatican issues sweeping condemnations

And not one blessed word about divorce or spousal abuse.

Vatican issues sweeping condemnations

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican issued a sweeping condemnation Tuesday of contraception, abortion, in-vitro fertilization and same-sex marriage, declaring that the traditional family has never been so threatened as in today's world.

The document was issued by the Pontifical Council for the Family, whose head, Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, is a strong opponent of the use of condoms under any circumstances.

However, the document did not mention an ongoing debate within the Vatican on whether the Roman Catholic Church could permit condoms to battle AIDS in a particular circumstance - when one partner in a marriage has the virus.

It reaffirmed the famous 1968 encyclical "Humanae Vitae" that stated the Vatican's opposition to contraception. Since then, it said, couples "have been limiting themselves to one, or maximum two children."

"Never before in history has human procreation, and therefore the family, which is its natural place, been so threatened as in today's culture," said the 57-page document.

2. WHY those celibate old farts feel competent to comment on
ANYTHING regarding sex and reproduction is one of the greatest mysteries of the church.

I don't comment on team sports. They need to keep their yaps shut about anything regarding the major area of life they have chosen to forego.

At least most Catholics are sensible people who know enough to ignore such stupid and hateful proclamations.

5. Easy for them to talk.
Priests have job security for life, most never took care of a cat, never mind a family, they have no experience of real life, so it's easy to issue such proclamations. What they refuse to realize is that most Catholics will do what's best for them, and disregard their proclamations. They don't have the power & hold on faithful they had in middle ages. If the church doesn't move with the times, it will continue losing membership.

4. Self-flagellation is the recommended cure. Do you know of any other
religion where its followers engage in such a practice?
