Church Program Won't Care for Woman Who Once Was a Man
http://www.startribune.com/462/story/363359.html

As far as the Rev. John Maxfield could tell, everything was fine between his church and Anoka County until that Friday the 13th.

...

Then the county brought another client to the conservative Missouri Synod church: a woman who had begun life as a man.

The church refused to let her in. The county refused to send any more clients.

...

"It places the church in a difficult situation," he said. "We want to minister to everyone. But this person's outward behavior contradicts the church's teaching."

Is the right to discriminate found in the Constitution? Apparently it is in the bible.

1. If the county is not sending them any more clients...

The county had better make damn sure they aren't sending any more tax-payer money to the bigots, either.

Added Yup, mentioned in the very next paragraph.

3. Yeah, that 4-paragraph rule.
Even though the "paragraphs" are one or two sentences, I figured I should trim a couple out.

4. My past church! I wonder if they would have taken care of
the adult whom I first met when she/he was a tiny baby? The baby had been born with a vagina and scrotum bag. The hospital was doing tests to see which sex the child was closest to and they would then do surgery &/or hormones to change the child into one sex. For many this is the result of a medical problem. Simple as that.

I understand your church refused to provide care for a transsexual woman because "this person's outward behavior contradicts the church's teaching." I assume then that you carefully screen all of your potential Adult Day Care clients and refuse care to:

Anybody who has taken the name of the Lord in vain, in violation of the 3rd Commandment.

Anybody who has dishonored their mother or father, in violation of the 5th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever killed another human being, in violation of the 6th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever committed adultery, in violation of the 7th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever stolen, in violation of the 8th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever lied, in violation of the 9th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever coveted, in violation of the 10th Commandment.

Anyone who has ever been divorced.

Any woman who wears gold or pearl jewelry, or braids her hair in violation of 1 Timothy 2:9.

Anybody who eats pork or shellfish, in violation of Leviticus 11:3 and 11:10.

Of course, if you applied the Bible in whole instead of just conveniently picking and choosing which parts you wanted to wield like a weapon you wouldn't have any people to serve now, would you? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

7. Even the Mullahs in Iran don't have a problem with sex change operations
http://www.sodomylaws.org/world/iran/irnews006.htm

Apparently this Missouri Synod church is more bigoted against transsexuals than the Ayatollahs are...

13. That is fabulous!
You'll have to do t-shirts.
Hey, maybe you'll start a new fad and end up with your own hit show!
You could even do an advice column!

Dear T.Grannie,

My scales have been especially itchy lately.
I've tried increasing my daily intake of greasy fundies, aged republicans, and assorted troglodytes, but nothing seems to work.
Please help me.

Signed,

A T.Rex Named Sue

14. How many times do I have to say it?
"Faith Based Initiatives" are nothing more than legalized discrimination on the government dime. They need to be disbanded. Yes, from time to time situations such as this one go public and the funding and/or client referrals get shut down, but in many cases the agencies/churches just keep on doing what they do and getting their tax dollars for it. :grr:

Wow, Christ told them what you do unto the least of these you do unto me. Looks like they've crucified Christ again. How sad.

19. This is effed up
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going...well I guess I've got no choice but to take it some more. I know the article itself didn't really touch on this, but Sexual Identity Disorder is a bona fide, documented mental illness (and no, that does NOT mean homosexuality) for which sex change operations are a legitimate course of treatment. So I would take that to mean, then, that if someone with this illness sought treatment - the church would then reject them? It's like rejecting someone because they're taking SSRIs or are in psychotherapy - I guess if it were the church of scientology I would understand.
