http://www.socaldeists.org/And something called universism:
http://universist.org/I myself discovered these only recently, several months ago.
I would consider myself closest to being a deist. I used to be a Christian, but found that Christianity, and supposedly having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, did not at all live up to its promise of helping me to better deal with any source of pain, frustration, or unhappiness in my life. Or at least that was the case for me.
And I also could not accept the idea, believed in by many Christians, that a person needed to explicitly accept Jesus Christ in this life to avoid being condemned to hell for all eternity.
However, with all due respect to those who are atheists, I found that I myself cannot be an atheist. I particularly have trouble believing that some things like our sense of beauty, truth, goodness, justice, right and wrong, etc. are not rooted in someone or something higher than ourselves or the natural universe.
I particularly agree with the deists in not accepting the Bible, the Koran, and other religious texts as authoritative revelations from God. I would agree with them that any alleged revelation from God is at best secondhand, or hearsay.
