Subject: Interfaith Alliance Launches Radio Show: State of Belief
January 11, 2006

Dear member of The Interfaith Alliance,

The Interfaith Alliance Foundation is excited to announce the debut of a new weekly radio show on religion and politics, hosted by yours truly. State of Belief will debut on Air America Radio this Sunday, January 15, from 5 to 6 PM EST.

As a vital addition to the voice and reach of The Interfaith Alliance, State of Belief focuses on the positive and healing role that religion can play in America. State of Belief explains and explores that role by illustrating the vast diversity of beliefs in America, while exposing and critiquing both the political manipulation of religion, and the religious manipulation of government.

Through interviews with newsmakers and celebrities and field reports from around the country, State of Belief explores the intersection of religion with politics, culture, media, and activism. Each week, I will offer you, the listeners, critical analysis of the news of religion and politics, and seek to provide you with an increased appreciation of religious liberty.

State of Belief will talk about religion and politics in public in all the ways you're not supposed to. As you know, I firmly believe that religion and radical freedom are best friends. And that the Religious Right is wrong – wrong for America and bad for religion.

State of Belief

5:00 to 6:00 PM EST each Sunday

Air America Radio Network

This weekend's show will feature:

*
America's esteemed journalist, Walter Cronkite, discussing religion, politics and the state of broadcasting.
*
Diana Eck, of the Pluralism Project (Harvard University), offering commentary of the importance of recognizing and respecting America's great religious diversity.
*
And, as you will hear every week, voices of activists across the nation, working at the intersection of religion and politics, will be featured.

on edit: here's an organization I haven't heard of before, but they sound like they might be good as well:

Interfaith Voices: A Public Radio Show

Host: Maureen Fiedler, SL
News Director & Producer: John Parman
Associate Producer: Lauren D. Phelps

This anti-gay fundamentalist organization below hates Maureen Fiedler, so I guess her radio show must be good:

Trojan Horses: Catholic Dissidents Network

The Catholic Left, includes, among other groups, the following organizations that are committed to ecclesial and political action. Exact numbers are difficult to assess, as memberships frequently overlap. Spokesmen do not give membership figures or rosters. A reliable estimate is that fewer than 3 percent of American Catholics belong to, or are sympathetic with, any of these groups. The Catholic Left, although unable to build a statistically significant membership, has power beyond its numbers because many members are employed by dioceses or Catholic colleges and universities. The membership of all groups is heavily weighed with former priests and nuns who are often given positions as liturgists, catechists, RCIA coordinators, and pastoral associates.

Dissidents are drawn to these groups in order to defend homosexuality, women's ordination, abortion, and gender-adjusted language in the liturgy. A few join with sincere hopes of bringing justice to the poor, and are typically anxious to maintain government entitlement programs. Catholics concerned with a single issue often are not welcome unless they give assent to the "rights" of the entire spectrum of the leftist agenda.

The organizations listed in this directory are nationally recognized or exert strong regional influence. Many smaller grass-roots groups are in coalition with national organizations but are too localized to be included in this compilation.

<snip>

Catholics Speak Out (CSO)/Quixote Center

Pursues the full range of "peace and justice" issues. The Quixote Center, a broad-based "peace and justice" organization, promotes liberation theology in this hemisphere. The Quixote Center, opposed to U.S. foreign policy, frequently poses as the "Catholic" voice to the media on U.S. involvement in Latin America. Catholics Speak Out is the Quixote Center's most visible project. Directed by Maureen Fiedler, who is also a member of the Loretto Women's Network (see below). Catholics Speak Out is a member of COR and serves on the national task force for the We Are Church referendum. Hyattsville, MD. Quixote Center est. 1976. Bill Callahan, codirector. CSO Est.1982. Maureen Fiedler, coordinator.
