Limbo in Limbo
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 12:52 PM by kansasblue
Limbo -- the place where the Catholic Church teaches that babies go if they die before being baptized -- may have its days numbered.

I never liked Limbo. So baby being punished, in my view, for the delinquency of parents or guardians. It made the church look cold.

5. No
Limbo and purgatory are different "places"

Purgatory is where souls go of baptized people who have committed sins but had not repented/confessed before death. They will spend a certain amount of time in purgatory before they can enter heaven. Purgatory is a kind of punishment.

Limbo is different. It is not a punishment. It is a place where those who are not baptized because they died as babies before baptism, or because they had no chance to be baptized and who led good lives, go. It is indeed an edge. It is not hell or purgatory, where souls suffer.

But because of no baptism, those souls cannot get into heaven where they are in god's presence. So they're in this limbo place which is not unpleasant or punishing, it's just not heaven.

That said, I'd thought that the Church had abolished the concept of limbo a while ago.
