Jesus Did Not Support The Proud, Deceitful
posted November 5, 2005

As a Vietnam USNR veteran, I am glad that Sen. Harry Reid has finally
stood for truth and openness. Republicans have for too long accepted cover-ups and duplicity concerning the administration's actions in Iraq and regarding the "war on terror."

I did not believe in 2001 in the ideas that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or that Saddam was involved with Al Queda. The UN inspection team and leaks from the CIA and others in 2001 were far more persuasive than the ideas of the "cabal" around Cheney and Rumsfeld. I hope that Americans will now learn what has been going on and why the situation in Iraq has unraveled as it has.

The Republican Party has followed an ideology that has cost Americans good jobs, has raised the deficit and the balance of payments to fearful levels, has lowered the esteem of most of the world for our government (as seen in Argentina at Bush's meeting with Latin leaders), and has cost us 2,000+ lives of our Marines and soldiers along with tens of thousand of Iraqis killed and unknown numbers of wounded and displaced.

Cheney now wants to continue the policy he endorsed earlier of not following the Geneva Accords. As a Naval officer, I was taught the need for captives to be protected by these Accords. It served us as well as the enemy. But Cheney and almost all of those around him avoided military service or served in the Guard, where they would not have to face combat. They now believe they understand better than Admiral McCain the impact of torture and terror. <snip>
