Church donates cows to PLWAs
Monday November 28, 2011
By Dan Ngabonziza

NYAGATARE-The Anglican Church of Rwanda (EAR) recently donated cows worth Rwf8million to people living with HIV/Aids in Karangazi Sector, Nyagatare District.

The donation of eight Frisian cows, and veterinary equipment was handed to eight families living with the pandemic.

According to Rev. Moses Gatarayiha of EAR Karangazi, the church has been assisting PLWAs in the area by providing them with milk and other foodstuffs.

“We realised that this was not sustainable and decided to start giving each family a cow. We want to ensure that at least every family of this category owns a cow,” he said.

The scale of global poverty is overwhelming. I'm not sure how well we can grasp it. I never remotely contemplated, in my American mindset, that a person or family living with HIV/Aids might need a cow to survive. I'm stunned.

1. Maybe if they had been provided condoms and not taught that they were evil,
Rwandans and other Africans wouldn't have so much HIV to worry about.

2. The Anglican Church is not part of the RCC
or the religious right whack-jobs from the US.

3. And beefsteak tomatoes are not the same as roma tomatoes,
but in most cases all anybody is going to know is that they are both tomatoes.

7. I see
it's just easier to bash religion when given the chance. Easier than thinking, I suppose.

11. I stated a simple opinion based on facts.
Fact 1: Condoms help prevent the spread of HIV.

Fact 2: Churches involved in charity in Africa, not just Catholic ones, have taken steps to prevent the distribution and usage of condoms.

13. No, you made a knee-jerk reaction based on your own biases
I see you're not going to let yourself get confused with facts, as your mind is already made up.

and read these:

and then get back to me about the "lies" and the "facts"

12. Sure, that's why restaurants that offer salads and other dishes with diced tomatoes
specify exactly what kind of tomatoes they use, and always buy that kind of tomato regardless of which kind might be on sale due to market conditions...

Oh, wait, no...

14. Too bad they have to clean up the mess created by
the RCC and religious whackjobs from the US, eh? After all, if it weren't for the RCC preaching that condoms are evil (and they spread HIV/AIDS), and Bush's pimping of "abstinence" along with elimination of condom funding, there wouldn't be such a crisis.

and the evils of religion.

25. I recently got some mail...
from a missionary organization that is giving away livestock and veterinary assistance to families in Africa. I have to say my wife and I were floored at both the whole concept and how inexpensive it is to fund part of this mission. We're probably going to fund some chickens and goats if we have any money left from our charity giving locally. Another mission that is doing some exceptionally good work is providing water treatment systems to poor villages.

26. I'm happy that that church did that. Those folks need all the
help they can get.

An atheist organization I am familiar with, The Magic Sandwich show, holds an annual drive for donations to <<Medecins sans Frontieres>> (Physicians without Borders).
