Too many atheists at Skepticon?
Apparently they are "hurting the cause" of skepticism...

1. Of course--religion is exempt from rationality's purview.
Doncha know it?

That Jesus existed, was both the son of God and God Himself, died on the cross for our sins, rose again 3 days later, and is the way to salvation is all personal belief exempt from rational inquiry. Wanting to examine any historical evidence to determine whether Jesus was a real person or simply an allegorical character isn't skepticism, but just militant atheism, just like Stalin what you'd expect to see in Stalinist Russia.

6. Looks like you are unable to see the actual idea being criticized, 'cause it ain't atheism.
But you knew that.

7. Why would PZ criticize atheism? The man is a raving anti-religious bigot.
He would be out of character as anything but that.

10. He's not criticizing atheism. Just the opposite.
Still got that reading-comprehension problem, I see.

That's also an interesting form of Tourette's you have. "PZ Myers" is always followed by "bigot," just as surely as "atheism" is always followed by "communism."

11. No, sorry. You are wrong.
He never immediately follows "atheism" with communism, but he DOES always PRECEDE atheism with MILITANT!!!!

4. I'd love to see "religious" people mind their own fucking business, but it seems
their beliefs give them license to make judgements for and of others, and they just love to do it.

9. Oh crap, another tone troll?
Wagg: I see a lot of good people leaving the skeptical community because they're uncomfortable with the tone and disappointed with, frankly, the lack of skepticism presented by many people.

Best comeback, in the comments: I'm all for civil rights, but the participation of all the colored people really makes me nervous.

And this comment (by Raven) is perfect for the R/T forum:

That is why most intelligent believers have retreated to sophisticated theology, which is another word for untestable claims.

Exactly. The author of a 40-pound book about "the philosophical god" is, to me, not a bit different from a Pentecostal preacher jabbering in the Unknown Tongues. The difference between them is only one of degree, not kind. They have a lot more in common with each other than they ever will with a non-believer.
