A Call to Action for Christians...sorta
Here is something that has been passed along to me by some friends. Apparently, a lot of people are going to be doing this. It can't hurt, right? I mean, God hears us whenever we pray, but if there's a whole whole bunch of us, it could make a difference, right?

I know I'm likely to get flamed for posting this, but oh well...

===

Urgent: Please send this message along to everyone you know, everywhere.

The time has come and is now at hand. This nation is at the fork in the road.

This nation will either follow a corrupt leader, George Bush, and go into dark times, or...

The faithful in this nations should confess all their sins and yield, submit, obey, and serve the eternal, all-righteous king, Almighty God, our ruler and father, forever.

There is no other choice.

2 Chr. 7 <14> If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land.

The fast and prayer is going to be carried out as follows:

Friday, 12-24-04, staring at 5:30 P.M. (whatever your time zone is, as I doubt God cares what time zone you are in) and lasting through 5:30 P.M. on 12-25-04.

Highly recommended:

-Try not to leave your home unless gong to a place of worship or congregation, to your family, or if you are asked to go to the aid of a sick or elderly needing person.

-Do not eat one bite, do not drink one swallow.

-Confess all of your sins, all of your father's sins, and all of this nation's sins.

-Give thanks and praises to God, your Father and Ruler, and to his holy son, Jesus, for all that he has done and is doing for you, your family and this nation (yes, for every single second of your life, and will do until you leave this earth).

-Meditate on and read the Scriptures all of your time that you are awake.

-Pray for the hypcrites who masqurade the name of Jesus as 'moral values' when they really use it for hate.

-Pray that our county would be saved from evil.

1. Sounds like a good idea to me.
And I know that prayers from all peoples do work and do make a difference. Having fasted at Ramadan (albeit only for two days-oh well, it was a start!), I can assure you one gets the feeling that one is participating in something world wide. For skeptics-look, fasting and prayer can't hurt, and they may help.

I will pray that people who are hijacking different faiths in the name of fundamentalism have their eyes opened to the true teachings of their faith.

3. Not bad, but you might consider
sending the money you would have spent on an Xmas feast to an organization like Oxfam or UNICEF, where it will be used to feed the hungry. I think Jesus would appreciate your doing that in his name much more than stuffing your faces between church services.

I have no problems with Christians who attempt to put tolerance and charity into action. In fact, I find much to agree with them with in my own halfassed Buddhist practice.

Any Christian who withdraws his support for this corrupt and unchristian regime has my approval. Those who go farther and think about how best to feed the hungry and aid the sick has my support.

7. Good idea
I don't have much money, but I try to contribute in my own way. My aunt drives around on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve and delivers Turkeys and food to a lot of poor families that wouldn't be eating otherwise. We cook all the food ourselves and load it in the back of her truck and go make deliveries.

And that money for the Christmas feast could go into a local soup kitchen too, so that the homeless can eat on Christmas too. Or if you've already bought the food, you could cook it and give it away to people you know need it.

And you're right, that would make Jesus very happy to see us reaching out to our fellow man. In fact, that's what He taught. Feed the poor, take care of the sick.

Too bad the fundies have forgotten that...

4. It's refreshing to hear
a Christian urge prayer to deliver this nation from the evil of **. I wish all Christians could see what you see and recognize their faith is being ill used by this administration.

6. God answers all prayer, even if the answer is 'no.'
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 11:58 PM by Timebound
Obviously, he knows best, 'cause he knows all sides of all issues, and has a plan for everything. The answer might be 'no'. But if you'll remember, in the Bible, God did change his mind on occasion.

And remember the Sodom and Gomorrah arguement: God said if there were just a few righteous men, he wouldn't destroy it. (And I'm NOT talking about gays or adulterers, more like hypocrites and greedy people) The God I know is not the one of the extreme Christian right.

When Clinton had his sex scandal, all the Repubs were quick to judge and try to get rid of him. When Jesus was presented with the cheating woman, he didn't condemn her. He forgave her.
