Galileo Vindicated by Catholic Church in 1992 (softer version)
Let me try again. As a defense attorney would say, let me rephrase my argument.

The Catholic Church deemed Galileo's theory of the Earth revolving around the Sun to be Sacrilegious and blasphemous. He was Excommunicated in the mid 1600's and placed under house arrest for the rest of his life.

You would think that the 1969 photo's from the Moon would be evidence enough for the modern day Catholic Church to admit they may be mistaken that the Earth is the center of the universe. But they waited until 1979 to study the matter. Finally, in 1992, they decided that Galileo was right and they were wrong, although they declared that the 17th Century Inquisition acted in "good faith". Such an enlightened group. No wonder we have such swift justice in the pedophilia priest investigations. Church justice certainly is swift and thorough. It only took Galileo 350 years to win his point.

3. Actually, church scientists acknowledged that the earth revolved around the sun centuries ago.
The 1992 thing was just politics.

4. Post WWII, Vatican asked to sing "Confession of Guilt + Co-Responsibility for Jewish Holocaust" ...

Post WWII, the Vatican was asked to sign ...

"A Confession of guilt and co-responsibility for the Jewish
Holocaust in Germany."

This is based on their having saturated Western Europe with
anti-Jewish hatred for 1,200 years --

1,100 of those years the Vatican kept Jews isolated in Jewish
ghetttoes, forced them to wear yellow stars, and barred them from education
and the professions.

After 1,100 years they were forcibly freed by first the French
-- "Equality for All!" -- and then by the Italians who moved the Vatican back
into the current one mile "nation" they are . . . an all-male nation!

At that point, the Pope went into hibernation and when he came out he declared
himself "infallible." And still the Vatican opposes democracy and "equality for all."

The Vatican also followed up with 100 more years of some of the vilest propaganda ever
written demonizing the Jews!

Hitler, of course, was a baptized Catholic and entranced with
the ritual of it all --

Here's what he had to say about the Holocaust . . .

"Well, what do you really object to in my treatment of the
Jews?

I have certainly been consistent -

I'm doing what the Catholic Church has already done for
fifteen centuries --

The difference between the Church and me is that I am
finishing the job --"

---Adolph Hitler/"Confronting anti-Semitism"

5. As someone in the prior (locked) thread pointed out...

... it's not like Catholic schools were teaching bogus astronomy until 1992. The poster noted that they had learned about the sun being the center of the solar system in the 1970's (as did I), and the poster's mother learned it correctly back in the 1940s (as did my parents). The Church just didn't get around to clearing Galileo's name until 1992. I really think it wasn't much of a priority for the Church, as history and science had already proven Galileo correct long ago, but JPII sought to finally make it official.

Kind of reminds me about governments that make way overdue official apologies for past atrocities. It seems water under the bridge makes large organizations slow to do things like that.

Buts for the pedophile stuff... I have no idea why the Church regarded it as an internal matter, or why justice takes so long. :-(
