Reuters
Sunday, December 6, 2009; 1:42 PM

ZURICH (Reuters) - Swiss liberals are considering a new referendum to overturn the ban on building new minarets in the country, Sunday papers reported, as Libya's Muamar Gaddafi warned the ban played into the hands of terrorists.

Club Helvetique, a group of over 20 Swiss intellectuals, will draw up an action plan to overturn the ban, which has drawn widespread criticism abroad and prompted hundreds of people to take to the streets this weekend in Zurich, Basel and Berne.

"A new initiative is the most democratic way of achieving this," constitutional lawyer Joerg Mueller told Sonntag ...

Two complaints questioning the legality of ban had already been handed to Switzerland's Federal Court, Sonntag said ...

1. There are no less than FIVE minaret threads,
all started by you. Do you think maybe you could post your new information on the exact same topic in the same thread?

I guess what I'm trying to say here is: "Please do not spam the board."

2. That's one more thread than there are minarets in Switzerland.
So, that number sounds about right.

Geesh.

3. Not likely to be successful...
Immediate reversals require you to get voters to acknowledge they were wrong the first time, which is always hard to do...

4. Interesting idea, but risky.
After the ban was voted in I remember someone from Switzerland posting that the ban lost in the cities you mention. If they vote again, and the minarets are banned again, it only makes the situation worse. So, if they're going to propose a new vote, they better have a good chance of winning.
