Yes we have this problem
Edited on Sun May-03-09 11:49 PM by Sandrine for you
Yes we have this problem too in Québec. For some times we think that it come from the fact that the elite, the educated peoples come from the one's who subjugate us, or work close to them.

Then the historians of our university began to tell an another story: it was a direct politic of the Catholic church. They fused the nationalistic need with the need of the church. To save catholic, it was a necessity to isolate people from the elite, and to make sur we make a lot of babies so we can occupying the regions : Ignorance is bless...with some other mythes like our destiny to transform all the North America to the catholic confession...

And it work. Obscurantism save us as a culture. But know there is this problem of anti-elitism and anti-intellectualism. But also, with times, our success give us a new kind of confidence, and we are more and more positive in front of intelligence. And the fact that now the church is simply dying.

But now, we don't make enough babies to simply reproduce our model of society...

7. I'm Atheistic 83, grew up in very rural South Dakota and the way I read it, it makes sense.
Most people in my life have been inclined to think formal education was over rated. The on the job training part of the WW2 G.I. bill opened the success door for people like me.

Now days we're nearly all convinced that a formal education is the way to go, it's all most a religion. Put downs over education are more frequent and meaner then they are over religion. IMO the real measure of know how shows up most in being an entrepreneur or having your own successful business.

I've questioned the validity of education for educations sake many times. Too keep your ego pumped up you'd better have natural math skills, big boobs or a large pecker to keep your belly full and your bed warm.
