Nun with the Sisters of Cleveland gets prison for military protest
Tuesday, January 27, 2009
Stan Donaldson
Plain Dealer Reporter

A Cleveland nun was sentenced to 60 days in prison Monday for her involvement in a protest outside of a Georgia military base last year.

Sister Diane Therese Pinchot, an Ursuline College art professor and nun with the Sisters of Cleveland, was arrested last fall for misdemeanor trespassing at Fort Benning, near Columbus, Ga.

The 63-year-old said she was ordered to pay a $260 bond and will have to self-report to a jail in Northeast Ohio in the next few weeks to serve her time here.

On Nov. 23, Pinchot was part of a group of thousands of people who participated in an annual protest of the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Operation, formerly known as the School of the Americas, a training facility for Latin American security personnel ...

4. I just saw this today. I know her!
I taught at Beaumont for two years and met her through that. She is a hero! The sisters there lived and worked with Sr. Dorothy Kazel who was raped and murdered by SOA thugs, as well as many of the other teachers I worked with. Sr. Dorothy and the other churchwomen should be canonized, I think. I always felt her presence very strongly in that school, and other teachers and students did, too.
