God Is Not Moral. People Are.
Humans make morals.

Religion went bad when it started to ascribe human moral values to God. We forgot we did this, and then pretend that morals can only come from God.

(Whew! Took a lot of nerve for me to get that off my chest)

2. That's essentially the position that the author of Job takes.
The decisions of deity are arbitrary, the adversary (of humans) is not opposed to the deity, but is employed by it. When the character of Job asks to know why a righteous man is unjustly punished, the deity responds "Because I can".

But if the deity is amoral and arbitrary, what distinguishes it from the usual randomness of Nature? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just suggesting that if a deity exists and is amoral, religion is neither good nor bad, its simply meaningless.
