Priest apologizes for ordering car with Obama stickers removed
A Fairfield priest who had asked for a car with several Obama for President stickers to be removed from the church parking lot a week ago apologized today to churchgoers for his outburst.

The Rev. Sebastian Meyer, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, read an apology at all the church's Masses "for the poor judgment I showed in expressing myself."

Parishioners, who reported the outburst to diocesan officials, said Meyer didn't make it clear during the Mass why he wanted the car removed. It happened five days after the election.

Last Wednesday, a reporter with the Vacaville Reporter filed a police report alleging that Meyer verbally and physically attacked him after he asked the priest about the incident.

Meyer could not be reached for comment.

3. An apology goes a long way
to setting things right in the eyes of impressionable people. I'd rather have him do this than to persist in his ignorance.

6. He is a piece of shit
but I still insist it is better for adults (especially ones that might possibly be role models for young people) to admit the error of their ways. Otherwise, we have Rush Limballs.

Being stubborn in the face of stupidity is no virtue. Admitting that one was wrong is a first step towards healing the stupidity and not using it to inspire others to duplicate the stupidity.

9. But look at the form the apology took
The Rev. Sebastian Meyer, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, read an apology at all the church's Masses "for the poor judgment I showed in expressing myself."

He should have apologised for holding such views, but instead he simply said sorry for expressing them. It's the typical conservative notpology: "I'm sorry you were offended". Do you think he'll change his attitudes? Or will he just be more careful to whom he expresses his hate?

10. You've got a point
I didn't originally read it that way, so it can be construed as a non-apology apology, sort of a "sorry I got caught".

But I do disagree with you about apologizing for holding a view. I'm entitled to my view that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be either President or VP, but that doesn't give me the right to have a vehicle with a "Maverick" bumper sticker towed away. If I had had done that, I should apologize for the act (and after seeing what you pointed out, in a better way than this priest) of interfering with another person's political rights.

However, being a Catholic priest means never having to say you're sorry, so I'm not surprised that his skills at apologizing were so poorly developed!

5. About two months from now, he'll be silently removed from that parish.
He'll probably end up either in a seminary or in a rehab center for clergy with substance abuse problems (to help mentor his suffering peers, or something like that). After about 6 months of that, he'll be recycled into the system, probably as an assistant pastor.

8. It's official:
I am now officially fucking sick and tired of these racist motherfuckers and their arrogance that makes them think they can act like this and get away with it.

The gall. The unbelievable gall.
