SC priest: No communion for Obama supporters
Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 09:59 PM by RJ Connors
you know,it seems to me the Catholic Church outlived it's usefulness a long time ago.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil."

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

"Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president," Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

"Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exits constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."

1. I want more and more people of the cloth to say things like this. People might begin...
...to realize that being a member of these houses of worship is like being in some communist youth league.

4. You can say: "Dear Father: Please refrain from introducing politics into your
religious services. I believe there is separation of church and state. Besides, I think we should investigate what's in YOUR closet."

Something to make him highly nervous and disturbed LOL

8. Darn it! The link doesn't work. Do you suppose they took their website down because
they were getting hacked? and or unbearably flamed

10. Let me check it, maybe a lot of people wrote. Okay I just checked....
looks like St. Mary's Catholic Church's website is down. I'll bet people everywhere began to access it and write e-mails. GOOD! I'm glad!

6. But, if it's "a sin" can't they just confess it and be absolved?
So, it's not only a sin to vote for Obama, it's an unforgiveable sin? :wtf:

It's worse than murder? I know inmates receive communion after all sorts of crimes.

9. Why is it not a sin to support war mongers that kill millions?

12. It's still up to an individual woman whether a fetus is aborted. Not so with War. War involves ALL
of us, even those to whom ANY level of responsibility for what happens in War is a major sin. We are involved against our own will and against our own conscience. So who's the greater Evil here: Someone who leaves culpability for a single violent act up to those who decide for themselves? Or someone who USES millions of people, against their will, to MURDER 10s of thousands of INNOCENT PEOPLE?

15. Neither Obama nor any other politician is pro-abortion.
There are many, however, opposed to legisltion that would imprison physicians and/or women.

This priest needs to redo his philosophy classes. Or to stop thinking in shorthand before he threatens eternal damnation.

17. It is a loss for the Catholic Church
My guess is that the Catholic Church is worried about losing membership and this priest is not helping the Church very much.
