1. Only the bloody, nailed-to-the-cross ones.
The chocolate ones are secular.

4. I think bunnies played a more predominante role in Fatal Attraction
than the Bible.

But that's just me. I'm sure the *christians have a much different interpertation since they seem to interpert everything different than me.

14. Religion and Christian are NOT synonyms
Something can be a religious symbol without being a Christian symbol.

5. Yes. The bunny is the Moon Hare.
Edited on Sat Mar-26-05 01:44 PM by aquart
Celtics believed in the Moon Hare. As did the people of India, and lots in Latin America before they spoke Spanish and Portuguese. I leave you to figure out how this amazing coincidence occurred.

The eggs are the sun. The golden goose laying the sun egg is an Egyptian solstice thing.

And OF COURSE it's all about fertility. Time to go plant those crops, sow those furrows (wherever you can find a fertile furrow).......older stuff dragged into the dawn of agriculture.

To get an idea how old this might be, understand that we've just figured out that the primary meat of Early Man the Mighty Hunter was bunny snared by broads.

8. Combination of the Dionysian cult
and the rights of fertility, i.e. beginning of spring, thing.

The Dionysian cult had the same story of the death and the resurection of their hero (god, with of course some variations, so it fit well with the Christians. Truth probably is that is where the Christians got it from but, their are many death and resurection stories throughout mythology so it's hard to say.

However, the Dionysian worshipers, as part of their rights had a big 24 hour or so orgy. If the Christians would consider importing that back in as part of their practice, well then I might have to give them another look. But I think St. Augistine put and end to that as being a possibility.

10. Spring renewal, green buds on the trees, bunnies in the meadow, etc.
A pre-history image of the cycle of the seasons. Essentially pagan.

Bunnies at Easter time as bringers of candy? Well, candy's good.

I don't think it's any more "religious" than Groundhog Day.
