Easter Now Bloodier Than Halloween
Local Passion Plays Lavish The Fake Blood
Church productions profit costume shops

You'd think the gore of Halloween, with its vampires, monsters and horror-film killers, would mean October is high season for fake blood.

But at Performance Studios costuming shop, high season for fake blood is right now, and the biggest buyers are churches.

"At Halloween, we sell blood by the ounce. At Easter, we sell blood by the gallon," says Gary Broadrick, owner of Performance Studios.

The churches that do Passion plays depicting Christ's Crucifixion and Resurrection come in search of biblical attire and stage makeup, including plenty of stage blood. The blood, church officials say, is necessary to truly bring home the message of Jesus' sacrifice.

*** - So all that blood they're spraying around the church now is used to drive home Jesus' message of his sacrifice? All this time I thought his message was "love ye one another." I stand corrected.

It's bloody ye one another. Which, now when I think about it, makes a lot more sense....

4. Not as weird as drinking his blood!
The whole virgin sacrifice thing is weird enough, but then they have to add ritual cannibalism too.

The definition of "normal" takes a turn for the worse about this time every year.

5. Christians ruined blood drinking.
Vampires do it so sexy...that passionate neck bite, the sexual tension.

And then christians ruin it by doing it under fluorescent lights, on their knees, from an ugly cup.

6. Just like that movie "The Smashin' of the Christ"
The remarkable, informative, entertaining DVD, "The God Who Wasn't There" has a segment on "The Smashin' of the Christ". The director shows how far (and it's REALLY far) Mel Gibson went out of his way to make the movie as BLOODY and VIOLENT as possible. He contrasts the revenue generated by the "Singing Jesus" (JC Superstar); the "Horney Jesus" (Last Temptation of JC) and the "Bloody Jesus" (Smashin' of JC) - Christians BY A HUGE MAJORITY preferred the bloody JC.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the DVD "The God Who Wasn't There". Features Robert M. Price, Richard Carrier, Alan Dundes, the people who created/maintain Snopes.com (urban legend debunking site), Earl Doherty and Richard Dawkins.
