Construction toy collection for sale
A friend recently contacted me regarding the sale of a large collection of LEGO and Mega Bloks. Sadly, the collector passed away suddenly, and his wife hoped that someone might be interested in acquiring the collection. The collector himself apparently wished that the lot not be divided for sale nor donated to an organization, but rather that another collector might take ownership.

I have no stake in the collection or the sale, and in fact I don't even know the seller, and my own circumstances don't currently permit me to make the purchase myself. I post this information here for anyone who might be interested. If you have any questions or would like to get in touch with the person who brought this to my attention, please either reply here or PM me.

Original message follows:
I was recently put in contact with a Diane who lives in the GTA. Her husband passed away and left her with a somewhat large collection of bricks.

I visited her on Sunday and took pictures--

My very brief estimate is that there are well over 80 thousand bricks. They are using the same storage system that I use--the plastic drawer system from Canadian Tire. The basic bricks are sorted into 85 drawers--both the shallow and the deep drawers. There is also a small organizer for the unique pieces.

Unfortunately, as you will notice from the pics, much of the basic brick is MegaBloks. There is a lot of LEGO there, but my best guestimate is that the collection is 60-70 percent MegaBlok. The unique pieces are mostly LEGO--looks as if he bought many creator sets over the last few years--click hinges and such.

The husband was a fantastic builder who loved making big and architecturally complex buildings. Diane showed me many pictures of very creative and impressive MOCs.

They didn't have any kids and there are no other family members that are interested in the collection.

As well, the husband didn't want his collection to go to someone that wouldn't appreciate it. He also didn't want the collection to be donated to a school.

If you know of anyone who is a fan of the brick--not just LEGO--that might want to purchase the entire collection, please let me know. I tried to take as many pictures as I could.

If you want to arrange a viewing, give me a shout. I don't want to overwhelm Diane in this time after losing her husband, but she is interested in getting this collection out of her condo. Since the entire collection is stored in the plastic drawers, a roll of shrink wrap and a few hours of moving it out wouldn't be that big an issue. Shipping all of it somewhere would be way too much on the pocketbook, but I think I can fit all the drawers in the pickup for transportation (using lots of rope and tie-downs) and am willing to drive mostly anywhere in the SW Ontario area.

Please, if anyone has any ideas or leads, let me know. She wants this collection to go to someone who will appreciate it in her husbands memory.
