Which is most unforgetable character/actor combo
You know the idea... Can you image anyone but Rosalind Russell as Mame? Can you see any other guy as Indiana Jones? Look at Yul Brenner and The King of Siam.

So if IFC (if they have not done it already.) can we come up with a list of the Perfect actor/perfect role list?

5. Sigh... must be an age thing
He was good, but I liked Moore and Brosnan better. Connery also did that goofy remake, Never Say Never Again. Almost should have disqualified him from any future Bond discussion, with his slobbering kisses and stuff.

25. not just age
The first Bond movies I saw were with Moore but I still prefer Connery myself.

I liked the first two with Morre but after that the writing went way downhill.

Never Say Never Again does not exist to me. :-)

2. A sometimes
overlooked one is Robert Duvall as Gus in Lonesome Dove, out of aprox. 6 billion people, they found the perfect guy to play that role. Robert Duvall will always really be 'Gus' in my eyes.

10. Gotta give the devil his due
Duvall is probably the best character actor out there, even if he is completely wrongheaded about politics.

In the female column, can anbody see Mama Morton being played by anyone but Queen Latifah? Not only can she belt out a song, but she stole every scene she was in.

Dustin Hoffman WAS Ratso Rizzo; Robert DiNero WAS an anonymous taxi-driver obsessed with jodie Foster.

These are just the first four that come to mind. All great actors.

30. Here's my obvious picks
Henry Fonda as Mr Roberts

Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch

Young Kate Hepburn as Tracy Lord (The Philadelphia Story).

Middle-aged Kate as Rose Sayer (The African Queen).

"Mature" Kate as Eleanor of Aquitaine (The Lion in Winter).

Humphrey Bogart as Rick (Casablanca) and Charlie Allnut (The African Queen).

The great William Powell and the incredible Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora
Charles.

Julie Walters as Rita in Educating Rita.

Bette Davis as Margo Channing - "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night." (All About Eve)

George Sanders as Addison DeWitt in All About Eve.

Sterling Hayden as General Jack D. Ripper in Dr. Strangelove.

And finally.....my favorite actor/character combo....

Claude Raines as Capt. Louis Renault in Casablanca - in my opinion, the very best supporting character part of all time. This completely unethical, amoral opportunist dripped cynicism with every word he uttered--and Raines nailed it so much so that he actually made this crumb totally lovable. "I've often speculated why you don't return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Run off with a senator's wife? I like to think you killed a man--it's the romantic in me."

They just don't write characters like this any more. ;)

41. My fave
Jeffrey Goines (Pitt): There's the television. It's all right there - all right there. Look, listen, kneel, pray. Commercials! We're not productive anymore. We don't make things anymore. It's all automated. What are we *for* then? We're consumers, Jim. Yeah. Okay, okay. Buy a lot of stuff, you're a good citizen. But if you don't buy a lot of stuff, if you don't, what are you then, I ask you? What? Mentally *ill*. Fact, Jim, fact - if you don't buy things - toilet paper, new cars, computerized yo-yos, electrically-operated sexual devices, servo systems with brain-implanted headphones, screwdrivers with miniature built-in radar devices, voice-activated computers...

James Cole (Bruce Willis): Oh, wouldn't it be great if I *was* crazy? Then the world would be okay.
