Incredibly Strange

William Shatner Is Recording Star-Studded Metal Album in L.A.: We Got the Details

By Diamond Bodine-Fischer, Thu., Feb. 3 2011 @ 9:39AM

William Shatner is back in the studio working on yet another great big pile of Shat-mazing, Incredibly Strange music. It's been over a week since Shatner first formally proclaimed Zakk Wylde's mad skills via Twitter ("Best, Bill"), but our sources on the scene confirm that some big metal heavy-hitters have been engaged to play backup to Captain Kirk.

Peter Frampton and Mike Inez (who will be playing "Iron Man" with fellow Ozzy alum, Zakk Wylde) are definitely participating and our source claims artists slated to perform (but who haven't done their parts yet) include Steve Howe of Yes, Ian Paice of Deep Purple and the god among men, Brian May of Queen. Supposedly it's only a matter of scheduling that prevents confirmation (come on May, make this happen!). Finally, it wouldn't be a space themed album without the space man and his self proclaimed Space Bass, Bootsy Collins!

~snip~

Shatner is nuts and amazing at the same time ....

1. I very much like his recordings, esp the one about "we are all going to die"
so simple, basic, so nuts and amazing indeed. Thanks for the link.

2. Heh, Shatner's last album was actually pretty cool... something to look forward to.

Ohh and, dude who originally did that song did the un-edited version on Colbert... all that "forget you" bulls**t on the airwaves can f*^# itself... (of course— it was as bleeped as Shatner's cover)

8. These two are on different planets ....
Hell ... different universes ....

Whoever advised Mr. Boone to do that probably does not provide advice any longer .... It cut into his market pretty severely ...

Shatner, on the other hand, is expected to do crazy stuff like this ....

Everybody knows he will do that weird talky-style vocalization that he relies on, so nobody will be shocked at how 'bad' he is ... It is camp, with great guitarists providing a backdrop ...

6. OMG. That is epic.
The man is an enigma.

I saw him once, with my brothers. He was speaking at a Marshall Field's department store and my brother thought it would be funny if we bought him some cookies as a present. My brother bought a box of MF's cookies (truffles) and we gave it to him during the Q&A.

He took one look at my brother in his jean jacket (this was about 1980 or 1981 I think) and he said:

"Looking at YOU, I wonder what kind of cookies these might be..."

Funny memory.

The whole scene was reminiscent of his brilliant SNL skit where he confronted the Star Trek geeks and said "Get a LIFE!"

10. He makes me smile.
When Shat so obviously loves throwing himself completely into whatever his latest thing is with unfettered, whole-hearted gusto... well, I love it and just have to grin.
