Edited on Sat Dec-25-10 08:33 PM by marmar
Man vs Food, World's Best Places to Go to the Bathroom, BBQ Wars, Pizza Paradise, Donut Paradise, Bert the Conqueror - Hour after Hour of absolute crap and dreck !!!! :puke:

Whatever happened to shows like GlobeTrekker? Oh well, at least they've still got Samantha Brown on.

4. I've never watched The Travel Channel but I must admit
that The World's Best Places to Go to the Bathroom intrigues me.

7. The problem is that it's just a different kind of dreck on the next channel.
And the next. And the next.

To paraphrase Springsteen, "500 channels and nuthin's on".

That's why we finally gave up on DreckTV; many of the channels
that used to be good simply became absolute shite.

18. It's funny you mention that.
One of the better news channels available to us is
"NECN -- New England Cable News". Pretty good
coverage of events, not too much "if it bleeds, it
leads!", and not too much obvious political bias.

When we want to watch news nowadays, it's either
PBS's carriage of BBC World News or NECN.

19. We had channel 12 (cable only) that covered lower fairfield county in CT
when we lived there in the late 90's and 00's. Not bad coverage. Lot of reporting about Greenwich, Darien, and Westport (the wealthy areas in fairfield county, CT).

It was only on Cablevision of CT. Not sure who the owner of that is.

oops, I'm sorry ... the "Learning Channel", what with its sudden obsession with "all things Alaska" ...

22. The SyFy channel has the old Twilight Zones. Adult Swim has a few great shows,
such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force and American Dad. The Comedy Channel often has stand up comics, then of course there is the Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Set up your DVR and you should have some stuff to watch.

6. That sounds horrible.
I'm so thankful for UNC-TV Explorer Channel: Globe Trekker, Simon Reeve, Rick Steves (yeah, he's dopey but I enjoy his show), Richard Bangs, Burt Wolf, Rudy Maxa. I've been toying with the idea of getting cable again, but between public television, Netflix and teh internets, I'm set.

8. Yes it does...actually, it may be the latest in a long line of cable channels
to have hit the skids.

Are you old enough to remember when A&E featured shows that were NOT like "Dog the Bounty Hunter"?

Hell, even the Animal Channel isn't what it used too be...I used to actually like "Animal Cops"

Now they show a lot of stuff about fish..."River Monsters" anyone?...How 'bout "Hillbilly Hand Fishing"?

I guess fish are cheaper.:eyes:

12. Animal Planet has really "gone to the dogs" (and not in a good way!).
I used to love "Animal Cops", especially the NYC ones with Officer Anne-Marie Lucas. And I used to enjoy (not sure of the name) the dog-training show with Victoria (?) Stillwell. And I LOVED the short-lived "Last Chance Highway"! That was such a sweet show.

At least they still show "Dogs 101". Their latest prime-time line-up is just dreadful, IMO.

17. You got that right...
The "animal cops" franchise seemed very successful...Hell, it went from Michigan to NYC to Houston, Philadelphia and San Francisco...It was well-liked...Given that, it's hard to believe it couldn't make enough money for the greedy people owning it.

How much of an audience can they get with freaking Fish?...It's like a "race to the bottom" with virtually everything in this country now -- horrible.

20. I watch Globe Trekker weekly. Why don't you?
To my knowledge, Globe Trekker was never even aired on the Travel Channel and they did not produce any of it nor have they ever produced anything like it at all, which is my way of agreeing with you about TC while defending Globe Trekker, still Trekking after all these years. Watched it last night on OPB, a show from 09 about Israel and the West Bank.

23. Even if I wanted to watch something on that channel, the ads are too much
to bear. I don't mean the commercial breaks, though I could do without the bald guy eating the penis of every species on earth, but I mean the commercials on the screen during the show. First there's the travel channel logo, which as I recall is not only large but animated. Then on top of that there's like three lines of text advertizing some show that won't be on for a month, but it's just that damn important that they need me to know about it. Then every few seconds a huge banner splashes across the bottom half of the screen screaming about yet another show. How is anyone supposed to watch their crap with all that crap going on?
