Simon Cowell leaving American Idol after this season
Simon Cowell leaving 'American Idol'

(CNN) -- Longtime "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell said he'll be leaving the popular Fox talent show at the end of the season, the network announced Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California.

Cowell's popular U.K. talent show, "The X Factor," will be coming to the United States in 2011 with the acerbic critic in tow, according to Fox.

"I want to leave 'Idol' this year bigger and better than it was in the past," Cowell said at the TCA tour Monday.

Cowell will be both executive producer and judge on "The X Factor."

3. I like America's Got Talent better.
They have more variety of acts. I don't want to hear young people slaughtering classic 60s and 70s songs that I grew up with.

I like Piers & Sharon Osborne a lot better than Simon too.

4. The only "Idol" news I want to hear is that it has finally mercifully gone off the air
and been replaced by a hard news program about politics and important issues and that it was on every channel and "Idol" idiots everywhere were being forced to watch something important! at gunpoint!

American Idol = Panem e Circenses

7. You may get the first part of your wish granted
Cowell's departure could mean the beginning of the end of American Idol. Remember that Paula Abdul got replaced on the show by Ellen DeGeneres, who's a great comedian but has precisely zero experience in the pop music field as far as I know. The charm about the Randy-Paula-Simon panel was that all three of these guys were music industry veterans. If Cowell is replaced by a non-music type, the integrity and acumen of the judge's bench is compromised.

9. My neighbor was on Idol and said he's very nice.
And I think dealing with Susan Boyle totally fucked with his head.
