From Susan Boyle's New CD ~ hauntingly beautiful 'Wild Horses'
Her rendition of The Stones 'Wild Horses'

The CD, 'I Dreamed a Dream' will be released in November. You can listen to it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3XAP0c8WU

She did a lovely lay-out for Harper's Bazaar which, she said, she had so much fun doing. Beautiful, inside and out. The setting for the photo shoot was in Scotland

Wish her mom had lived to see her finally realize her dreams.

It is an inspiring story. I remember in one interview she said the reason why she wanted to do well was to show people with disabilities that they can 'turn a disability into an ability'. And of course, for her mom!

1. A little overproduced
but even that can't lessen the impact of such a perfect voice.

She really is phenomenal. It's just such a shame that looks and circumstances kept her buried in obscurity for so long.

6. What she has demonstrated
imo, is that those who decide what the public wants, fake beauty often with little talent, are wrong. Without any of the enhancements thought to be so necessary for stardom, Susan became a star just as she was, once the public had a chance to see and hear her.

In the world of entertainment now, the belief is that women especially cannot make it unless they alter their appearances to please the public. But with, as you say, real talent, she has proven that to be wrong. She has fans around the world, millions that the hollywood types could only dream of. I hope someone learns a lesson from her success and will have more faith in the public's judgement so that others with talent like Susan's don't go undiscovered.

3. You know, I was hoping no one would see the need to give her much of a "makeover"
because I hate that...but she really does look great in that pic.

4. I can take her both ways.
She had such a hard coming out that it is good to see the smile. Her voice is so beautiful.

7. I think the people at Harper's did a great job
They did not want to change her so just used a minimal amount of make-up and she touched up her hair. Video here of her having fun during the photo shoot. She is so appreciative of everything that is happening in her life. I'm sure it was refreshing to work with someone like her for a change.

8. I think they did a great job, too, because they didn't overdo it.
They didn't try to completely remake and glam her up...as a result she just looks like the sweet, refreshing girl next door. Only in a sequined dress! :-)

12. She does look good. I was happy too, they didn't overdo 'changing' her -
they really strived not to change her it seems - just to polish her up a little. It's nice without being fake or painted.

I'm proud for her. She proved that anyone could and should follow their dreams! No matter what age. And to an old bitty like me, that's important!

5. Beautiful photo. Love her hair! Just like me the tiniest bit of makeup
makes a world of difference, too (I am downright scary without any).

11. Yes, I noticed Jagger fans liked her version.

What was not expected was the number of rockers and hard rockers who became fans of hers also. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote the song, don't know who has the rights, but she probably had to get permission to sing it. It will now become a hit all over again, so I imagine the Stones are happy. Look what happened to Andrew Lloyd Weber's Broadway play, it became a hit all over again and sold out tickets after her audition tape went online.

She is worth a fortune now, according to reports this CD has outsold some of the top sellers and it even out yet.

From the Daily Telegraph, for which I can't get a link for some reason:

The album has out-sold pre-release titles including Whitney Houston's comeback album and The Beatles remastered and is predicted to be Christmas No.1 on both sides of the Atlantic.

15. It had me until the strings came in.
WAY overproduced.

The voice is enough to carry it with just the piano. Too bad someone had to get carried away.

regretfully,
Bright

16. I love the piano too
but I didn't think the orchestra was too much ~ it will be interesting to hear the rest of the songs and how they are produced.

The song was a surprising choice for her, as it was written for Mick Jagger's girlfriend after she survived a heroin overdose. I think Susan probably sang it for her mom, who she said she had in mind when she sang 'I Dreamed a Dream'.

She said she used that song at a time when she was grieving her mom's death, and wishing she was back when they were together ~ but that now she is ready to move on.

I liked the arrangement of this song, but do love when you can hear only her voice and the piano.

19. Thanks for that link
It looks like most of the commenters are pretty enthusiastic about Susan's version of the song. Wow, I wonder if she expected to attract an audience of Stones' fans? Although being from the the 'British Isles' I'm sure she was very familiar with their music growing up.

Some great comments even from die-hard Stones' fans. That's a hard thing to accomplish, to win over fans of the most well known version of a song. I liked this one:

Ulmo Patiostoné | 9/17/2009, 7:43 pm EST

@PJ – Keith wrote it, Mick messed with it a bit to reflect his breaking up with Marianne Faithful; it was recorded by some guys in 1970 and Mick and the Boys put it on Sticky Fingers in 1971. From there, lots of people tried it, but really, didn’t Susan Boyle actually DO it? Her version makes my kneesocks roll up and down all by themselves.

*note: I am NOT an expert. I just play one on the internet.

Lol, I guess he likes it!

DO check the forum thread on the Stones' It's Only Rock and Roll website. It's very positive, and funny, too. Wild Horses has supplanted the usual Paint it Black, Gimmie Shelter and Start Me Up as the Number One Stones' song on ITunes.

21. Wow, thank you again ~
I will check the comments. I think she has answered her critics, if you can even give them that much credibility (talking about the British Tabloids) who claimed she was a 'one trick pony'.

Her voice is simply beautiful. There are many other great singers, but I think what makes her voice so appealing to people across the globe, is that she sings from the heart, or soul or both.

This song, et, I am certain she was thinking of her mother even though it was written for someone else, the one person who always believed in her. She explained that when she sang 'I Dreamed a Dream' that is who she was singing it for. She wanted to go back to a time when her mom was with her but as she said sooner or later 'you have to move on'. But it was on her mom's advice that she took what was probably her last shot at becoming a professional singer.

22. Susan is Better
I know it's not PC of me to say, but Susan should have won over "Diversity." She had the talent and she really is amazing. Classy too. She hasn't wrecked her looks by turning it blonde (an utterly revolting trend too many celebrities are doing it) and she seems so sweet. She isn't trying to be a snob about doing the things she does.

There is something about her voice that just reduces me to tears. The songs she chooses sometimes surprise me, but they do showcase her talent very well. I think she could sing the phone book and have the same effect on me though.
