Anthony Hopkins Is To Play Hannibal Lecter Again, No Jodie Foster
The 71-year-old actor – who starred in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’,
‘Hannibal’ and most recently 2002’s ‘Red Dragon’ – will reprise his role as
the cannibalistic serial killer for a fourth time in the upcoming horror
directed by Ridley Scott.

A spokeswoman from film-makers Universal said: “Anthony Hopkins and
director Ridley Scott are both very committed. We like what we’ve got, and
the revised script is really, really good.”

However, Hollywood actress Jodie Foster, 46 – who starred alongside Hopkins
in the original 1991 thriller – will reportedly be absent from the latest
installment.

A film source said: “We’ve decided that we’re not going to reapproach Jodie.
We are trying to come up with the right lead to replace Jodie and are
putting together a list of candidates.”

It has been reported Cate Blanchett has been lined up to star alongside the
Hollywood veteran instead.

Movie insiders are convinced the film will be a huge success.

Another source told the New York Post newspaper: “I think Hopkins’
involvement raises the quality of the film considerably. Cate is a very
respected actress, and she’s obviously been in the industry for a long time.
In terms of pedigree, Cate would probably bring as much to the film as
Foster did.”

1. Hannibal Lecter eats the nursing home?
I think they can give it a rest already.

2. Translation
At 46, Foster is to old to sell tickets on sex appeal anymore.

3. Actually, it was her choice not to before, so I'm betting it is this time as well.
Though your overall point about Hollywood is most definitely all too true.

6. I wouldn't say that, I think her recent action themed movies have done fairly well
"The Panic Room", "Flightplan", and "The Brave One" were all pretty good I thought, for popcornish movies, and I originally watched them begrudgingly because my wife wanted to see them.

7. Those cannibal movies never stop coming.
It's got to be at least 2 per decade. They should slow down a bit and not go crazy.

5. At least bring Julianne Moore back, she was Clarice for as many movies as Jodie was

And an actress that usually gives her all, even in some of the bad scripts she's been given. Jodie has been doing the thriller/action movie thing lately so I don't know why she'd be so unapproachable. Ridley Scott rarely phones a movie in either so it shouldn't be too bad. I liked "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon" (I know that was Brett Ratner). I do wish that Foster would have stayed with the role though. I'm a stickler for sequel continuity, even though I know it is impossible in Hollywood many times.
