The Day the Earth Stood Still - a bad remake
I can't believe they remade 'The Day the Earth Stood Still"!

That is my favorite classic Sci-Fi movie! And, by the reviews I've read, it is awful.

3. A Bad Movie With Keanu Reeves? No WAY! That's like a bad John Travolta movie...
As in, the vast majority of them...

Thank goodness for DVDs and cable TV - any piece of crap these guys touch will at least break even...

And... what's next? A remake of Citizen Kane starring Kelsey Grammer?

7. Ha! You said "Kelsey Grammer."
Hmm...who else could do a remake of Kane? Tim Allen? Steve Martin? No, wait, I've got it...Robin Williams! God, I can't stand Robin Williams.

13. "Tell Ted Turner to keep his crayolas off my film"
Probably apocryphal, but allegedly one of Orson Welles' last words.

Love Citizen Kane.

6. you're judging a movie on the REVIEWS?
Jeez -- placing your trust on some over-opinionated journalistic failures?

I wasn't happy about the remake, either.

But if *the message* from the first movie is still there, and it's packed with enough scary shit to get that message through to the brain-dead masses -- FINE. That's the whole point.

The trailer looks great, and this is one movie we want to go see.

15. I didn't read any reviews before seeing "Life is Beautiful" - GOD am I glad I didn't!
I was maybe one of the ONE percent who went to see this movie thinking it was some kind of romantic comedy! (at least, that was the impression my wife and I got from seeing the commercials).

Going in, not knowing what the movie was REALLY about, it turned out to be one of the most POWERFUL experiences I've had.

Of course, none of this applies to the remaking of a classic such as Day the Earth Stood Still. The comparisons to the original are all too fair to make, however the movie will nonetheless make money. Have they run out of science fiction stories or something?

10. I think there truly is something to the opinion that
there's no point in remaking a movie that was wonderful in the first place. It will never be improved upon, so why do it?

I've heard they're remaking 'Forbidden Planet' too. WTF.

How about a remake of 'Casablanca'? 'The Big Sleep'? Fuggedaboutit

20. It wasn't groundbreaking but it didn't deserve such bad reviews...
I would say it didn't swing it's theme from thing to thing. It didn't try to be drama and comedy at the same time. I would say I could have been watching better. But I could have easily been watching a worse movie.

12. Sorry no can do this remake.
Instead I'll spool up the wonderful Robert Wise directed 1951 flick. In glorious black and white with the wonderful, haunting Bernard Herrmann music--complete with solo theremin.

Hollywood has absolutely no new ideas and no creativity. They're gonna remake and sequel their way into oblivion. The only good films come from the Indy studios. I am fucking sick to death of this kind of crap. Next they'll try to remake Hitchcock's Psycho... wait a minute, they already did that. It bombed, of course.

Fuck Hollywood.

16. I thought the original trailer looked good and seemed true to the spirit of the original
Now they've essentially given away the entire plot in newer trailers, which sucks because it was actually a nice "surprise twist" device. So about the only reason left to see it is eye candy, which in trailers looks pretty good, so I'm thinking the actors must have all pretty much phoned it in. As far as Keanu? Why would we expect Oscar worthy emoting from a character who is supposed to be wooden and analytical. He's perfect casting.

17. The marketing for that shit is ridiculous.
You've got one commercial that advertises the preview for "Wolverine" coming on before the movie.

You've got a commercial consisting of action figures with dialogue from the movie played over the images. No animation.

And you've got the commercial that tries to rip of "Cloverfield."

It'll be one of the worst movies of the year.

18. I loved the original. Don't you think some movies should NOT be remade? Especially if
they contain Keanu "plays himself in every movie" Reeves. He is the kiss of death to me because he is a one trick pony (see also: Adam Sandler).

21. It was 2 different takes on the same premise. I saw it as a sequel.
Michael Renny gave us a warning. We didn't follow it. Keanu Reeves came to pass judgement for not heeding Renny's warning.
