A matter of identity
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 10:50 PM by spindrifter
Azadeh Moaveni is campaigning her new book now, Honeymoon in Teheran: Two Years of Love and Danger in Iran. If you haven't read her other book yet, get a copy of Lipstick Jihad: A Memoir of Growing up Iranian in America and American in Iran. It is without peer in its insights into the quest for identity of first generation children of immigrant parents who retain a strong sense of their own allegiance to the homeland.
I won't spoil Lipstick Jihad for you--simply ask that you not think the title is frivolous or that it must simply be more chick lit type reading.

1. I saw a big thing on tv, or heard
on the radio about her book. So I got it from the library and tried it. But it bogged down after a few pages.
No I don't say simply chick lit about anything. But, if I remember it was young girl young girl young girl, and then this dark and sinister monolith of Iran.
So I faltered out after a few pages.
It may sound funny, but if she rode a motorcycle around, and interspersed that with her story, she would have had me hooked. I like motorcycle stories, you see, and for me that would have been a 'hook' to allow me a place to come into the story.
