So apparantly the Shakespeare authorship controversy is real
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare_authorship_question

Here I am, thinking that this question was just an amusing side-plot in Jasper Fforde's "Thursday Next" series of books. After all, Fforde is pretty damn creative and seems to know English lit like the back of his hand. And then, BOOM, there it is on the front page of Wikipedia.

:wtf:

Well, I'm off to drop a couple of shillings into a WillSpeak machine.

1. Oh, It's Very Real
and nothing like a fringe belief. There's been a lot of work since 1920, but the book that really laid the claim to deVere as the author is online here:

The deVere theory has also amassed a pretty amazing list of adherents.

2. A noted Shakespearian scholar recently wrote a book on the topic
Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare by James Shapiro. He came to the conclusion, as have most scholars, that Shakespeare did indeed write Shakespeare.

There is an upcoming movie, Anonymous, that claims Edward de Vere Earl of Oxford to be the author. Should be an interesting movie as this is a fun debate.
