5. Congrats!
Have you considered providing a copy to loveromancesandmore.com for review? It's one of the largest review sites on the web and holds contracts with most of the major publishers now. It's a great way to get even more publicity.

Just a thought. They also do promo ads that are quite reasonably priced, if that suits you.

Sounds like you have a real winner here. I definitely recommend you make the most of it.

18. Hey, I read WAKE and loved it!
I can't wait for FADE; when is it coming out?

I'd like to see more about Janie's mom. I couldn't help but wonder if she's a catcher too and if maybe she drank to rid herself of it somehow (but I always read too much into stuff ;)). Anyway, great job. I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down and loved all the plot twists.:thumbsup:

26. Cool, thank you!
Well, as of this moment, FADE is the sequel and there is more police work, yes, but there is also a plot line that continues Janie's ability/curse.

If there will be another book in the series, I'll be sure to let you all know!

25. Congratulations on your new book!
That's very exciting!

I was wondering if you have any advice you could offer someone starting out? I'm currently writing my first fiction novel and have been really enjoying the process. So far it's getting rave reviews by my wife. :)

There's a writing forum in my state/area where you can pay published authors/editors/etc. to review and edit your book. Once it's complete I'm considering utilizing this kind of service to help me fine-tune it as well as to get some professional feedback.

Do you think this would be a good idea before sending it off to agents? I've got a ways to go before I finish it, but am always curious to hear how successful authors went from where I am to getting signed and published.

Thanks and hope you have a blast on your book tour.

28. I would be wary
of anyone who charges to review and edit your book -- be sure they have some references and credentials and find out in advance what you can expect before paying for any services like that. There are a lot of scammers out there -- so many people would do anything to get published, and sadly, there are people who prey on that. So get the definition of "review and edit."

There are many free websites where writers congregate, and getting to know a few, making friends, and exchanging novels for mutual feedback is probably one of the best ways to go about it. A couple sites to google:

Zoetrope
Absolute Write
and if you are very serious and don't mind a $30 a year subscription, Backspace is a fantastic place with many experienced and talented authors (some of whose names appear in this forum).

And you can find a myriad of info at literary agent blogs, such as http://www.nathanbransford.blogspot.com/
and http://pubrants.blogspot.com/

Both of these agents are legitimate and top notch.

Also, check out http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/ for A Newbie's Guide to Publishing blog.

Good luck!

34. Reading/signing in NYC Aug 6...
Hey DU, I'll be reading/signing in NYC, one night only:

(cross posted in the lounge)

Wednesday, August 6, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Books of Wonder
18 W 18th Street
New York, NY

http://www.booksofwonder.com/events080608.asp

I've really enjoyed meeting you guys in my travels. Please come if you can make it -- there's a cupcake place either right in the store or right next door, I'm told (can anyone confirm this crucial bit if info?). I'm thinking about reading an excerpt (sneak peek) from my second book, FADE, due out Feb 10.

About the book: WAKE is a NYT bestselling novel about a 17-year-old girl named Janie who gets sucked into other people's dreams. Plus there's a hot guy in it too.

There will be several other young adult authors there too, so bring a teen (or five).

xo

Thanks LWolf -- I think Janie and Cabel's story is over, for now at least. But I'm so glad to hear you & students liked the books. :)

Next up is Cryer's Cross, another creepy paranormal with a love story. Comes out 2/8/11.
