SUWANNEE COUNTY RECOUNT OBVIOUS BIAS!
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 10:57 AM by IAMREALITY
I can't find the link but a DU'r yesterday posted the precincts that the Herald counted in Suwannee, and had concerns that they were for the most part the precincts with the smallest shrub margins, therefore making it less likely to find discrepancies. I wanted to post a quick chart to show this theory. The precincts they counted are in red, precincts 1,2,5,7,12,15, and absentee. With exception to precinct 15, the rest are by far the smallest. First the raw data, then the chart.

Bush Kerry %Bush
1 336 536 38.5%
2 515 257 66.7%
3 522 180 74.4%
4 679 184 78.7%
5 429 163 72.5%
6 355 120 74.7%
7 269 106 71.7%
8 364 114 76.2%
9 558 145 79.4%
10 459 156 74.6%
11 468 167 73.7%
12 609 287 68.0%
13 734 217 77.2%
14 369 90 80.4%
15 359 114 75.9%
16 499 165 75.2%
ABS 3621 1512 70.5%

3. Something that I wonder about is
Precinct #1. The only precinct in which Kerry was ahead of W, they only counted about 39%. All the others 70s and 80s. Why is that?

8. Thanks for visualizing this...
So where do we go from here? What was the Herald's official response been to this inquiry?

10. Here's the reporter's answer to my earlier query:
These are the Suwannee precincts we checked: 01, 02, 05, 07, 12,15, absentee
and early ballots. We chose these precincts randomly.
Best,
Meg Laughlin

12. Thanks.
Has the reporter mentioned why they only selected these "random" precincts, rather that doing the whole county?

9. Should we ask?
Meg Laughlin was willing to give me info about the precincts counted.

What do you think about me emailing her again and asking for more detail about how they chose the precints? Or is it better not to raise a flag with them at this point?

19. Autoreply says she's "traveling"
Hmmm... could she be off to do some more counting?

Here's the autoreply:

I'm traveling and may not be able to check my e-mails for a few days. But I
will try to get back to you as soon as I can.
Meg

22. Maybe the letters to the Editor of the Herald had some impact
and she'll do a BETTER job on the next investigative assignment. There were 4 letters published, all relating to this article and issues related to counting all the votes.

I wholeheartedly agree with having 100% of the votes counted in Suwanee. We may find something interesting there, for a relatively small expenditure of cash. Any ideas on how to hit up a few people with non-empty pockets?

17. Here's the link...
This is the link to the thread that identifies the Suwannee County precincts that were used in the Herald's study. As you can see from the posts, it is hard to believe that their selection was random.

18. Remember they were trying to show Dixiecrats alive and well
So of course they would pick precincts with high democratic registration which would also show higher Kerry outcomes.

I thought it interesting Kerry picked up 42 votes in the 2.6 counties but the NH recount showed a more statistically fair mix of Bush and Kerry getting extra votes in the recount. That blew my theory that Bush was padding with a few votes in every precinct to get his man date. Maybe it was only in select states but then why was NH 11% off exit polls?

It would be interesting to do recounts in other precincts in FL to see if the padding was done in FL (but not NH).

20. Don't Know
Not sure if I agree with that reason for hand-picking the precincts.

I definitely don't think that every precinct was padded, just strategic ones. I'm still convinced though that they covered their tracks well enough that initial recounts wouldn't expose it. I think we need a serious poll book, registration, signature, and evote forensic investigation to get to the bottom of this. Unfortunately, not to sure that could possibly happen, though at least JJ is callin for it.

21. For about $500 we can recount Suwannee ourselves
They charged the MH $35.00/hr and it took 8 hours to count about 2/3's of the votes.

Rough guess is about $500 to do the whole thing.

You could probably do Volusia for about $7000.

Maybe Michael Moore can come down and count a few counties?
